If Foudy is worthy of the Flames lineup, why is one of the worst teams in the league waiving him?

Yes but didn't Zary have a pretty productive pre-season?
And isn't he a bit younger?

Maybe he was the one who spilled the beans on Babcock?

Pretty normal stuff.
13-20 picks in the 2018 draft are waiver fodder.
Next year the same will be said for the 2019 draft picks.
Ty Smith was just waived as well.

The BJs are deep at young centers; Fantilli, Johnson, Sillinger.
They just need some time to develop and push Jenner and Laine back to the wing. For now they can probably do fine with Jenner/Laine/Roslovic for the time being.

Foudy’s one major fault is that he plays a bit of a “soft” game, with not a lot of physicality. I wouldn’t want to cast Greer aside in favour of Foudy.

I'd definitely pick Foudy up for free. He had very good OHL numbers and showed well at the world juniors. Big and a great skater as mentioned.

Also I dont think he's had a fair NHL shot at all. He's not a grinder style, but has played only bottom 6 lines for 2 years with 10-12 minutes per game ice time. Bad deployment. Could be exactly the type of player that would thrive in a different environment.

The food in Columbus is lacking. Calgary has what a Foudy needs.

More on Foudy:
I'm not saying claim him or not - hopefully pro scouts gauge it appropriately...

"he earned more ice time and had 7 goals and 10 points in the final 27 games of the season for the Jackets."
Then they go on: "He’s a replacement level player, and I think if he’s on the third or fourth line, he’s a good fit here. He brings some size, plenty of speed, a maturing two-way game, and a touch of offense. He has one more year left on his contract, which gives him one last shot to separate himself from the pack here."
https://unionandblue.com/2023/05/24/...ew-liam-foudy/

WHAT IS HIS OFFENSIVE CEILING?
It took Foudy 63 regular season games, including 36 this season, to record his first NHL goal. But, he finished the 2022-23 season scoring seven goals in 27 games, which is a 21-goal pace over an 82-game season. Maybe Foudy started receiving lucky bounces to end the season, or maybe he found an offensive touch. Either way, the ship has probably sailed on him being a top-six forward in the NHL, but that doesn't mean he can't be an effective NHL player. There's no reason he can't score 10-to-15 goals a year playing in the bottom six, which is something that the Blue Jackets, or any other team for that matter, would welcome.

I'd rather just call up Zary than claim Foudy

I was thinking he might benefit from playing 3rd line minutes with Backlund, but I don’t see him displacing anyone in the top-9. I agree though, he needs a better opportunity.

We don't need another teams reclamation project we already have our own players we can call up.

Bottom line talent is not what this team needs at the moment.

Yeah we got a perfectly good center on the farm, no need to bury him further. Besides, how'd that salary cap break down if the Flames made that claim? I was of the understanding they only had room for maybe 1 claim and they went and got Greer.

Same thing for the 2020 draft in a year or two with Zary.
