It's legitimately hilarious how often posts like that get made. "I'm so mad that this thing I can easily avoid is still here!"

That is true. But it is also legitimately embarrassing that the conversation about his wife continues. It's a bad look for fans.

Agreed, but outside of a couple borderline incels, it's been pretty mild overall. It's legit point of discussion, some weirdos just take it too far.

I don't know if it is really a valid point of discussion, but I certainly get the frustration of some who are keen to follow this thread and Gaudreau's season in CBJ, but are beyond tired of retreading the same debunked talking points from the summer.

There's another thread for former Flame performance though. It's quite clear what this thread is, coming in and being frustrated that it hasn't changed seems weird.

I didn't think it was a cool look either for some guy to throw out a rumor that Gaudreau's wife wanted to stay in Calgary as Gaudreau is a coke head.
If it's open season in that regard, we can all start a few rumors and just say. "I'm not going to verify, I don't care if you believe me."

His wife was probably a blessing for him and got his head start and focus on hockey and family.
He wasn't a bad person off the ice, but he also wasn't doing things to keep his career going in the right direction. A lot of good things happened for him, his wife, the baby, having an expiring contract and Darryl Sutter.
It's too bad he decided a while back that he was going to leave.

I don't know anything about the last bit, but this is not a rumour. It has now been verified by multiple independent sources here that Meredith Gaudreau's preference heading into UFA was to stay in Calgary. That is a fact.

it the coke habit bit that I had issue with. that's not the type of thing you should just throw out there for ####s and giggles.
but considering how many likes it got, I understand I'm in the minority.

Be the change you want to see. Nothing it stopping anyone from posting about his 3pts the other night in CBJs win over PHI.

FWIW, Gaudreau had quiiiiite the reputation off-ice in Calgary during his early days, so it completely makes 100% sense to me that Meredith's preference was to stay in Calgary, as Gaudreau rumors started dying down right as she came along.
In fact, I will even admit to a phone call conversation (that I'd be willing to confirm with a mod) that I had with Calgary's management team during 2016 (or 2017?) because of the seriousness of the rumors of his off-ice reputation in Calgary.
Now obviously that doesn’t confirm at all that that's why Meredith wanted to stay in Calgary, but it makes sense to me why that could've played a big reason in her wanting to stay here, where Gaudreau finally started to smarten up (hopefully things are going great personally in Columbus).

Well I agree with this and particularly the influence that Darryl had on him. You have to think Darryl was not happy seeing him leave.
I think the "can't speak about the wife comments" are funny in that its somehow taboo to discuss a significant part of the story. Of course its personal. But totally topical. The W network ran a series on the lives of hockey wives.

I don't think you'd be thrilled.

I don’t think anyone who views the Stanley Cup through such a reductive lens would ever come close to being an NHL player.
It’s about legacy and glory. These guys care about that. They can make peace with not winning when they’re retired, but you don’t put your body through what they do if you’re just about the money.
And if you do, that result looks like Daigle, not Gaudreau.

I think the likes are more related to the statement that Gaudreau knows he made a mistake.
Neither will necessarily be verified by the sound of it, but it probably makes Flames fans feel better about themselves.

It is kind of striking the hate that people have for him now. Someone posts that he's basically a cokehead, refuses to verify, and instead of getting called out, he gets a ton of likes.
