While i understand it is Kipper night in Calgary - what is preventing the other 31 teams from making trades? It hasn't been this slow a week out .. for a bunch of years. There aren't even many rumors.

Last year the deadline was March 3.

Looking at the 14 days prior to the deadline, in the first 7 days (Feb. 18 - 24) there were 5 trades (6 if we include one on Feb 17). In the final 7 days (Feb 25 - Mar 3) there were 56 with 45 in the final 4 days.

It didn't matter with Jagr, he was a black hole of possession (in a good way). If he had the puck the whole game went his speed, until he gave it up.

Food for thought and maybe already posted but the Hockey PDOcast ran their ‘trades we would like to see’ shows this past week. One trade discussed (think it was Drance);

Extended Hanifin and Rooney for Mikkola, mid round pick and Anton Lundell.

Part of the thinking is the Panthers need D heading into next year.

So long as it isn’t for any young prospects or draft capital; not really interested in giving up anything in terms of futures for a 32 YO.

He is a UFA and the Flames are interested in dealing for him?

find that very hard to believe.

Barrie… there’s just no point, not worth the cost unless it’s like. Barrie and a 3rd rnd pick for our 5th or something.

Pure cap dump for them.

Meh, if we're paid a pick to take him for the rest of the year, why not.

The only way the Flames should acquire Barrie is if it is a favour to Nashville to free up cap space for them to acquire something else.

Like flames get Barrie for future considerations which turn out to be nothing.

Preds already have all kinds of cap space, though they may be working on a budget less than the limit.

Barrie is an offensive defenceman putting up 0.34 points per game this season. He should cost nothing.

Don’t think Nashville needs the cap space. That said he has only played 5 games in 2024.

if we take him on, and get an extra pick/asset out of it, I can get on board with it. We'll have lots of cap space.

I can't remember though if that was just his personal opinion or if he had a heard something.
