I think Mercer for Markstrom is a great trade for the Flames even without anything else coming back.

Getting mercer would be an unreal win. Shouldn't expect anything else imo.

BUT

That is under the notion that we are only trading Markstrom here, meaning we still potentially have Hanifin and Tanev to trade for more pieces yet.

I'd be happy with either but Mercer seems like the best piece out of the four options so I'd choose that one especially as I expect Markstrom might push the Devils pick into the low 20s instead of the teens. If the pick slipped into the lottery and brought in someone like Tij Iginla I'd prefer Iginla + Holtz over Mercer and a lesser prospect but no way of guaranteeing so go with the surer thing.

I'd take Mercer and a 3rd over Holtz and a 1st.

Remember we still have at least 2 more trades to make where high picks can be the target.

Option 2 could very well be Holtz + Iginla.

But it could also not be.

I'll take door #1. Mercer is NHL proficient already and a C. Flames need that.
