Right now, the Flames have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. The Oilers have one.

IMO the Oilers can't beat our offers without including one of their big 4 or Nurse. And they seem dead set on overvaluing those guys or considering them untouchable.
CGY has a lot of different pieces to offer. 3 of the following could get it done:
CGY 1st, Baerstchi, Granlund, Wotherspoon, second rounders, third rounders, etc.

If they do, that's a massive overpayment to move up one or two spots in the draft. Either way, it's a win for the Flames.

Would it be bad to trade our #2 pick in 2015, assuming we are going to play better? I think Ramo and Ortio will be a good duo and don't see us losing as much as we did this year, but I still don't see us making the playoffs next year. Would our #1 pick for 2015 even be in consideration for a trade, rather than trading our #1 pick for this year and having two #1 picks in the top ten? Just a thought.

I could easily see Baertschi and the 1st being packaged to move up. LW is a position of depth

My idea(s) seem bad, but I don't know about you, Ortio and Ramo both are .500 and over. Ortio has a 2.16 GAA as of now. We have two legit goalies in my opinion to switch off, and Ortio is only going to get better. You have to account Berra for a lot of those losses, he just couldn't close out the game in regulation. One I can think of on the top of my head is the Chicago game, where we were up 2-0 with 10 minutes to go in the third period, and he blew it with a backhander by Kane with roughly 30 seconds left.The only thing we are missing is some top 6 players, and I haven't even looked at the UFA list for next year. We have a lot of cap space.
But I could be wrong. We'll see.

Edmonton is not going to lose out on this, they can't afford to. These are the "bold moves" Mac T speaks of. If we are entertaining the thought our first and Sven, is it really that much of a stretch for the Oilers to give up a -30 Yakapov before the bottom totally falls out on his worth.
They will just spin it as addition by subtraction of a headache Russian flight risk.
Remember if Edmonton picks 2nd overall that will be a much more attractive pick for Buffalo who will still have the security of getting the guy they want

Quite a few of our players are playing well, but to keep the same pace for 82 games will probably be a different story. Most likely going to be more growing pains as well. But truthfully who knows what can happen.

It depends on how Buffalo sees the different players in this draft.
If they see it like 2009 (excluding Tavares) for example:
Hedman=Ekblad
Duchene=Reinhart
E.Kane=Bennett
B.Schenn=Draisaitl
If that is the case then Baerstchi, Granlund, 2nds and 3rds won't get the first overall pick from Buffalo.
If Buffalo sees the 3 centers as being pretty much equal then its pretty possible.

Buffalo isn't going to trade the pick anyway, so it likely doesn't matter.

I am starting to really like the sounds of Bennett. He has a real edge to his game and sounds like a guy opponents hate to play against. I am hoping the flames can stay in the top 5 but top 3 would be great. Ekblad, Bennett, or Reinhart are definitely my fav prospects in the upcoming draft

Last season Monahan was voted 2nd smartest player, second best playmaker, third best stick handler, and third best on face offs. The players ahead of him were older.

I think we'll end up with Dal Colle the way things are going (5th overall). He looks to be the last left of the top group, with the way Draisaitl's stock has risen and being a large centre, and the others maintaining a very high level of play.

Assuming that Edmonton will overpay to get the 1st overall, or that the flames aren't willing to give up the assets to move from say, 5th to 1st, what do you think it would take to move up to 3rd? I feel much better about picking one of Bennett or Reinhart if the cost to move up isn't too high. I personally believe that Bennett will be the best player out of this draft when all is said and done, but if Buffalo were to take him ahead of us Reinhart would be a nice consolation. Thoughts?

MacKinnon is Duschene 2.0. Not Crosby. I don't think any player in this year's draft matches that criteria. Not to say any aren't as good, but each seems to have different skill sets. And then there's Ekblad.
I really haven't seen a lot of any of them, just snippets and what I've heard on here from posters and scouts. That said and not to rehash what many of you already know about each of these players, I think this will be a draft that may be unprecedented in terms of team need.
It's a great draft to be in the top 5 and not give up a limb to move up, unless Burke really has his eye on a guy. The more I think about it, the more I like this scenario.
