With that in mind, and considering Virtanen plays for the Hitmen, maybe he's ranking him in the 40s because the Flames scouts (Todd) aren't high on him.

Yep, since the Jankowski pick (though there were a few services listing him in the late 1st round I believe), I have looked at Craig's list with more interest trying to figure out who the Flames have their eye on. haha

that's pretty much my top 5 too. I don't know too much about the others since I thought we were safely in the top 5. However, with how Nashville and Carolina are repeating last year, it's time to learn about players in the 6/7/8 range now too

Any one if Reinhart, Ekblad, Bennett or Draisaitl I'd be very happy with. Do not want Dal Colle at all.

I think we'll have to drop behind one of Edmonton, Islanders, or the Panthers if we want to get one of those 4. Dal Colle has the lowest ppg of the top five and plays on the best team. He is an interesting prospect though could turn into a power winger if he packs on a bunch of weight. Has good compete level too. I don't see us gaining 7 points on Nashville or Carolina in the last 17 games though so we should be guarenteed a top five pick,

How can he dislike Virtanen so much? Most other lists has him top 10 and he has him in 40s. To me thats a case of Button having a very negative stubborn opinion of a player.

Sounds like Virtanen scores most of his goals off the rush. NHL is more a cycle game these days.

Mistakes happen, but a blunder on TSN's title for video discussion of Craig's List. The "Dutchland Dangler"?!? Is there a prospect from the Netherlands we don't know about...
(Versus...obviously: "The Deutschland Dangler" - Leon Draisatl)

Top 5 is bang on IMO, Virtanen way down there is wonky, I get having him low but 40s? Smething wrong there. Also some pretty amateurish little errors, first place I've seen Draisaitl listed as a LW anywhere.
Wanna say Ehlers and Perlini are too high but this is just a really terrible draft. Man, Hope the flames break their record for highest ever pick because after #5, to me that's a huge drop in talent, those are 2nd rounders in a normal year... At #6 & #7!

Craig always has at least one head scratcher. Last year most had Zac Fucale as a late first rounder or early second rounder. Craig had him at #9. Fucale ended up being an early second rounder.

If we have the 5th pick, I'm hoping some team ahead of us takes a player like Ehlers. Draft surprises do happen.

I can't stand Button (he's a phony goof IMO) I'm personally willing to bet him a grand that Virtanen gets picked in the first round.

It could very well be that Button hasn't seen Virtanen enough. He does his own scouting while compiling his lists. He might have caught Virtanen on a bad game or two (and I am sure he obviously can't put in as much time scouting any particular region as you would expect teams' regional scouts to do).
I used to think that Button would release his lists designed to illicit controversy and not much else, but it does make sense once you factor in that he scouts his own entire list (correct me if I am wrong here). I think it actually increases the legitimacy of his lists by not going along with what most reports throw out - especially given that he simply can not view any one prospect enough times - so there will be prospects he catches in a 'wow' stretch, and others he catches in a bit of a rut, and thereby his list will be and should be a bit different.
Let's see where Virtanen ends up at in his final rankings.

He ranks them based off how he sees their impact in the NHL, not off where they will get drafted

He's not trying to predict where the players go. He's making his rankings based on how good he thinks they will end up as NHLers.
You'd be shocked at the variance if we could see every team's lists. There is no consensus. Some teams may have Virtanen top 10 but clearly not everyone does.
