Deangelo had a bunch of off-ice concerns about him ever before this. There's a reason why a guy who produces like him (60 pts in 43 games as a defenseman) rates so low, even if he is small.

The only time you draft a D-bag is if they are as good as Patrick Kane. Shinkaruk and DeAngelo are no Patrick Kane's

I've heard no inclination that Patrick Kane is a bad teammate. He's not in the same boat as those two players.

I forget but did Downie get drafted before or after the Aliu hazing incident?

After. Downie was drafted in '05 and the hazing incident in '06

True. That doesn't mean that they don't all share that winning personality....

I wouldn`t completely remove him, I`d take him but only in one of the later rounds. People can change but betting on people changing is a gamble so if I`m going to gamble on someone I`m going to take that chance only in a part of the draft where getting an NHL'er is gravy. That way if he's still a ####head in two years I can walk away with no regrets.

Nothing serious, just overly egotistical like Kane. If he didn't have the attitude problems, he likely would've been taken in the early teens. DeAngelo will likely drop to the 2nd/3rd now even though he should be taken 20th or so.

Though I can't provide a link, there have been rumours that Hunter's teammates on the Tigers can't stand him.

While this incident raises red flags, it doesn't preclude DeAngelo being selected high. NJ still took Myles Bell despite his past. While Kulak got into legal trouble after being drafted (as did Ferland), it won't prevent them from pursuing a pro career.
I haven't seen a link as to the nature of the inappropriate comment so hard to judge at this point. It may be a case of the kid needing to be around the kind of vet leadership to make him a better player and teammate.

i think a lot of is 'big fish in a small pond' cockiness. He was an American who was recruited to play in the OHL. He played in the USHL at 14. He's on a god awful team that has been playing short players for a while. They got whipped in this game 6-1 so he probably just flipped out.
Once he goes pro and gets knocked down a few pegs, he'll likely change.
I don't believe Sarnia has any visible minorities on the team and the OHL hands down suspensions for calling a guy a 'Euro' so I doubt it was something that horrible.

I don't think so. Shinkaruk's late selection had more to do with his production plateauing than anything else.

That and if rumors are true he was a mental midget in the interviews.

Edmonton is 4 points back with less games remaining, but they just acquired a goaltender that has been playing out of his mind this season. That should win them a few more games then they would have otherwise. They also have like 15 of the last 21 at home. They suck at home, but are marginally better then on the road.
I think Calgary is a good bet to get one of Reinhart, Bennett, or Ekblad who appear to have separation on the other prospects IMO.
|
If Edmonton can't get Ekblad I think they might go for Draisaitl, so if the Sabres do take Ekblad, Reinhart might still be available when the Flames pick even if Edmonton finishes behind Calgary.
Although, odds are that Sabres won't retain the first pick with the new draft lottery format.

Myles Bell is a pretty bad example of a player maintaining a high draft position. Past over in two drafts, then selected late as a 20 year old
Character or discipline issues will very likely move this kid down. How far will be determined by how well he cleans up his act
