My bf and I stayed at the Bahia Principe a few years ago. We loved it! He's more of the "stay on the beach and take it easy" type and I'm the "I wanna see everything I can" type and we both had a terrific time, with a great balance of what we both wanted to do. The food was tasty and the rooms were large and comfy.
My hands down favorite was the wall of tequila when you entered the buffet hall. They had at least 10 different kinds of tequila right there for you to try as you walk (or by the end of it, crawl) into the buffet room. I don't know about any of you but up to 10 shots of tequila BEFORE you eat, makes for an interesting evening. My favorite kind, which I'm still trying to replicate, was the fiery hot red pepper tequila.
They put us on the Akumel side of the resort which had no kids while we were there. The Tulum side did allow kids but we weren't bothered at all because we were only around the kids when we went down to the Tulum side ourselves.
Funny story, there was a large tour group of Italians there at the same time as us and while there are signs stating that topless bathing was not a permitted, most of the ladies were topless from start to finish.
Well one afternoon, he and I were enjoying the beach when we both noticed this drop dead gorgeous girl setting up her spot nearby us.
Time goes by and we are both occupied looking for something in our bag when we hear this voice speaking Italian right above us. Well he looks up and less than a foot from his face is this same girl, topless, leaning over him asking for a light for her smoke. It was hilarious watching him try to be polite and tell her we didn't smoke and all the while with her chest less than a foot away from his nose. It was priceless.
