According to Global the latest offer from the city is expected to rejected.

Default Union targets walkout June 1 as workers reject city's 'last offer'

Quote:

Mike Mahar, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 583, said while nothing's finalized, the union is looking at launching a 24-hour walkout, likely on June 1.
That falls on the first day the city will host the Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference, set to draw municipal and federal leaders from across the country.

That means they would have to service strike notice on May 29th (72 hours notice), right?

So transit should continue to run next week?

Here we go. The union issued strike notice this afternoon. That means transit workers are in position to walk off the job as planned on Friday, June 1. The union says it will be a one-day walkout.

But the city has threatened to lock-out transit workers if they take job action. That could mean we're in for a longer outage.

Look for the city to lock em out.

With the cost of living in Calgary as it is I can't see transit workers being on the picket line too long. Strike pay doesn't come close to paying the bills and I doubt too many workers have money put away for a strike.

Of course the stupid union will put the spin in motion saying it was the city that locked them out.

I wouldn't be surprised if the City locks them out, simply because if it drags on there could be job action during Stampede, which would be a public relations mess aside from all the problems it would cause.

Turns out the city is not going to lock them out after all.

There is now.

Plus management will not be operating C-Trains this Friday.

Quote:
Bronconnier noted despite suggestions the city would have managers operate C-Trains and some transit service in the event of a strike, there are no plans to do so on Friday.

The Union had to re-file their strike notice so the one day strike on Friday now starts at noon instead of midnight.

I booked it off too...Not a total waste for me as my builder is coming over to fix a few things.

It sounds like the agreed to disagree. According to cbc.ca they decided to try to settle the shuttle bus thing at a later date. The union is going to file a grievance in the fall. So maybe the strike is just delayed...

Not true.

"Instead, the union has reserved the right to grieve the new fleet before the Alberta Labour Board if they are used to supplement conventional buses, effectively seeing part-time, lower wage drivers take jobs away from senior transit workers."

Transit union members have voted 69.3 per cent in favor of a new deal with the City of Calgary
