Good luck, man. Took the bus at 5:25 today, even Ctr Street wasn't cleared very well.

Crack out the fat bikes if you got 'em. No way I could ride in on my little 35mm's.

Fuzz, post here if you are still alive.
habernac, I'm hoping it stops snowing today and they get enough done for me to attempt to ride tomorrow. I'm betting the paths will be in better shape than the little bit of road I'll end up on (12th street NE).

Admitted defeat. Made about 700m in 10 minutes of sliding around, ploughing through quicksand. Also felt like throwing up form the effort. Realized it was going to take an hour, and wouldn't be much better for the ride home, so I u-turned and took the bus of shame. Bus wasn't bad becuase I think lots of people stayed home, not much traffic.

A fat bike would be so much fun today on the paths.

A forumer over on the Bike Calgary site made it sound like even riding a fat bike today was no fun. I thought it was conditions like this they were made for.

I went for about a 2 hr fat bike ride yesterday. I was running some errands, and just out for a bit of a fun ride, so I was on streets, cycle track, and the pathways. It was a lot of fun and the bike pretty much ate it all up.
Such a great piece of kit!

It is a lot of legwork to break fresh snow. The next issues are if there are ruts in the snow and you veer out of them, your bike can go in an unexpected direction.

Success!
So much easier when the snow is cleared out of the way. Toes a little frosty, but I'll survive.

Argh I should have gone for it, but after all the shoveling the last few days and then the cold today I bailed and went for the car. Back at it tomorrow (when at least it will be much warmer).

Warmer tomorrow? I guess it depends if you believe Environment Canada(-20) or Weather Network(-27) for 7am. I considered bailing again, but with tomorrow looking the same it would give me an excuse to bail then as well, so I went for it. I think I did a few days in December at this temp, so gave me confidence I wouldn't need to find a warm dead tauntaun halfway in.

Well the high tomorrow according to EC is -12, so I'm going for it. Just like you I did some of those -25 days in December too. So -20 won't be too bad.

My face is a bum!
|
The river walk was slippery as hell today. Luckily there was no one to fishtail into.
The crappy part, is this likely means tons of packed snow and ruts from people commuting on that much snow, so after the path is properly cleared, it will be a bumpy mess.
As my garage door was closing I realized I forgot the thing I wear over my face, and I was late. I did have goggles at least, but I think my face was numb enough I would have had troubles getting a sentence out on my arrival.

Well that felt colder today. With the warm weather coming, we can look forward to more snirt, turning to ice. It could get tricky next week!

The crud/snirt is going to be way worse than the snow and cold of the last few days. Biking home today...the residential roads will be 100% worse than the pathways I'm sure.
