I have rollers and a Tacx trainer. I get bored of both pretty quickly.
I'd like to try the Lemond one, but the price is pretty high:

I have a cycleops and a tacx vortex smart. I like the smart trainer. It allows you to connect to online applications that will control the resistance. I find this more enjoyable than just spinning on the cycleops.
I use Zwift and Trainer road. Zwift is like a game almost in that you ride against other people around the world. There are only 2 courses, and you can ride as little or as long as you want. The courses have sprinting sections and hill climbs and you can see your best times, along with others. Sometimes pros will ride on zwift as well. Evelyn Stevens, Jens Voight and Ted King for example.
With Trainer road, you do a base ftp test, and then your workouts are all based off of that. You can also use sufferfest videos with Trainer road.
My vortex smart is one of the cheaper smart trainers and only applies a break to add resistance on hills. The more expensive smart trainers will also provide some assistance on the downhill portions.

^ I think the only bike shops big enough have a decent website are the bike shop and bow cycle.
My wife told me that the Cyclepath boys mentioned that they would have a sale after Christmas.

For those looking for a new lock, Amazon has a couple of Kryptonite locks on for about 50% off for the next few hours.

So today I pulled the trigger on a trek Farley. Was hoping to get a slightly better price, but in they threw in some pedals that sort of got me to the same spot dollar wise.
Liked the trek a little more than the rocky mtn because it had internal cable routing and had a better parts spec.
Took for a quick spin around the hood and riding in the winter seemed somewhat surreal. We are off to panorama for the rest of the week, so I will have to wait until next Saturday to get out to fish creek or someplace.

Very random question that's barely bike related: so as a part of my divorce settlement, I've had to buy out my leased car and give it to the dirty sniz in exchange for her hot, hot Honda fit. So, obviously, I'm car shopping now.
I see a lot of MTB in my future and would select a vehicle based on this. Outside of Odesseys (single now, can't drive this), Benz G (can't afford atm), and Rover LR2s (hate these), are there any other vehicles that can accomodate a couple of upright bikes with wheels on? Would prefer AWD/4X4.

Anything you can put a hitch or roof rack on. Lots of neat rack options these days.

Should have specified. The whole idea was to keep the bike inside the vehicle. The highly publicized stats on bike theft have left me paranoid. Some days, it's tough to enjoy the after-ride meal/beer because I keep checking outside to make sure the unsecured bike is still there on the yakima rack.
Truck with a topper will work, but I would prefer an SUV/CUV alternative because I'm a complete truck n00b. I'm hitting the dealership at lunch to see if I can cram a bike into a highlander or 4runner.

Never underestimate the awesomeness of a minivan. Ignore the haters. Great for bike storage, hauling wood, sleeping in etc.

Kurt Searvogel will break the one year cycling distance record today, surpassing Tommy Godwin's 120,805km (75,065 miles). Crazy.

If you like the 4runner and it has everything you need, great.
But I wouldn't overlook any other vehicle because you don't like the idea of not keeping your bike inside the vehicle.
Bike locks are a thing that exists, after all.

Useless factoid of the day: A honda fit has a larger top to bottom dimension than a highlander.
Cant fit the bike wheels-on+seat post on in either vehicle. It's looking like minivan or truck/topper.
I would strongly prefer the bikes to be out of sight, no just locked. The only thing keeping me sane through my personal BS is building bikes right now. In the last 3 weeks, I've put together an ASR6 (XX1 build) and the Thunderbolt 799 (XTR non-di2). I have too much in these bikes to not minimize the risk of theft.

I've got an S10 with a tall cap. I run a thick chain to lock them inside if I have to leave them alone. If you put window tint on it would probably help even more, and the modern caps have a bit better locks than mine.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Unless VW brings their microbus, I just cannot get a minivan. Now to go learn about trucks...
