1. Cups mean nothing in free agency. See: Brouwer, Troy.
2. 'UFA Winger with size' = slow. See: Brouwer, Troy.
3. Dwight King had one point on a playoff team last year and was by far Montreal's worst player in the regular season and playoffs. Can you say -9.1% relative Corsi?
King would be a worse version of Bouma. See: legendarily awful.

Dwight King might be the worst player in the NHL.

I agree with you on Brouwer, but Bouma is easily the Flames' toughest forward. (Ferland is also up there.) It's just a shame that he can't score anymore and is overpaid by about $1.5 million.
The Flames are plenty tough, though... and the way the NHL is headed, toughness should never be a reason for seeking out a player. It's a 'nice-to-have' at this point.

Bouma can't fight very good .If we lose Engelland we are not so tough.

King had zero fights last year.
Honestly, I'd rather bring up Hathaway. He had four fights and 56 hits last year in 26 games, so if cheap toughness is what you're going after, he's the perfect guy.

I would rather allot that money to sign Kris Versteeg

One thing that treliving hasn't done great is free agents. I would rather just stay away from any they never work out

Disagree,
Engelland was by far the toughest player on the team followed up by Ferland. The injuries really caught up to Lance. Outside of that the Flames are butter soft - not nearly tough enough to compete in the West.

Toughness is nice but overpaying for it in free agency is what bad teams do. Shouldn't be that hard to develop internally IMO.

I agree with you for the most part. Raymond and Brouwer were both pretty big fails. Personally I think Hiller was a decent signing he gave the Flames 50+ starts and was decent the first tese here but a tire fire in year 2.
For substantial signings I think he did well with Frolik and Engellend and did poorly with Raymond and Brouwer.
I don't think Hiller, Johnson, Versteeg etc were bad signings but on 1-2 year deals I don't think they affect his free agency rating.

If the Flames want toughness there's some on the way with Lomberg and Hathaway. Hunter Smith (who everyone seems to seriously under rate) will play for this team on merit eventually as well I bet.
There's enough in the system that Brad shouldn't be going out and dropping 18 million on AHLers.
