Colorado needs a young D as part of return. Hamonic might not be right fit. Duchene is eager to move. Still tough to make work now. 3 way?

When's the last time we've seen a 3-way, Darren?
Gotta love the insiders feeding the machine right now. All about those ratings, baby.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Decision Day for DET. Sign Brendan Smith (3 x $3.5M+ or thereabouts) or trade him. Multiple teams interested, incl NYR, amongst others.
Greg Wyshynski @wyshynski
MacLellan said the market for defensemen is "third-pair depth guys." Sounds like he feels he took the best (and only) Grade A defenseman.

Could be a busy waiver wire day.
If a player isn't assigned to the AHL before the deadline, they are ineligible to be sent down from the NHL roster for the rest of the season (there is an exception or two to that, for example if that player was on an emergency recall before the deadline).
There likely won't be anyone worth taking, but Treliving has claimed a player before off waivers before the deadline (Schlemko)

Eberle is one of those guys with a reputation greater than his ability. Small 55-65 pt a year winger. 2 years from ufa. Turning 27 shortly. Basically Versteeg a few years ago.
He is not terrible but only in edmonton or toronto is that worth duchense or a top young dman.

Yes he was supposed to be the main piece that the Hawks got back in the Leddy trade.
He has however had difficulty cracking the Blackhawks lineup, he is also expansion draft eligible, so the Hawks might be just trying to move him so they don't lose him for nothing.
He also needs waivers next season to be assigned to the AHL.

Might be worth looking into after expansion draft. Could be a decent option on the third pairing. He's still young so there some potential there.

Not surprising in the least. NMC, $5M cap hit and they need space to sign their younger, better players

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
TB has list of 16 teams Valtteri Filppula can be traded to; 13 he can't. Belief is TB has approached him to consider waiving to one of 13.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Should we add Vladimir Sobotka to @TSNHockey Trade Bait board? Possibly. Currently playing in KHL, still owes STL a contract year.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Sobotka could return to NHL after KHL season over. If he plays 1 NHL game, it burns NHL contract yr. Sobotka is NHL post-season eligible.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Sobotka could return to STL tho STL may gauge pre-deadline interest as tradeable asset. So another Trade Bait name to perhaps consider.

Filppula is an interesting name. Wonder what the asking price would look like?
Maybe a 2nd + "B" prospect?

Filppula is interesting as a potential longer term player for Calgary.
I think he's an excellent comparable to Backlund. Signed his big deal with Tampa at 29 years old after coming off a 23 goal, 60+ point season as a defensive stalwart.
If the Lightning are looking to move him primarily for cap savings he could be a relatively low cost acquisition for a team like the Flames that could still use some flexibility among their centre depth (moving Bennett to the wing etc).
WOrried about what he might be asking for on his next deal though as he will be 34 at the end of his contract.
Enticing player though, especially for a team that might be looking to make some noise in the west this year.

I'm all for it if Brad can make the money work. He only has one more year in his deal so it's not a huge commitment. If the acquisition cost was low enough he may be a good player for the push this season and next year. Not a big deal if we can't afford him after that
