Toffoli an RFA after this season.
Pearson an RFA after this season.
No significant contracts off the books after this season.
Lots of work for Lombardi. I really hope LV doesn't get them out of a jam by selecting either Brown or Gaborik and if LA magically getS out of another albatross contract it'll be pretty obvious who Gary's preferred clubs are.
|
I was listening to a LA beat writer 2 weeks ago on the radio. He is certain Lombardi is moving on after this season and Rob Blake is taking over. He also thinks that Sutter won't be in danger after Lombardi departs. Ownership allowing Lombardi to sign Sutter to his recent extension shows that he is highly thought of there.

Teemu Pulkkinen seemed to have some upside a few years ago, what happened?
Wonder if he can play right wing?

Doesn't skate well enough for the NHL. Flames have passed on him the previous 2 times he was on waivers.

Wanted to grab him off waivers earlier this year but he just has been able to translate his scoring to the NHL yet and time is running out for this guy. Definitely has an NHL looking shot from the videos I've seen but seems like a AHL journeyman more than anything at this point.

Chip Alexander @ice_chip
Scouts at Canes-Flames game: Avs, Caps, Lightning, Bruins, Blackhawks, Golden Knights.
Avs, Caps, Bruins play the Flames relatively soon.
Lightning and Blackhawks don't play the Flames again this regular season.
Lightning do play the Canes on March 1. Blackhawks don't play the Canes again this regular season

Gaborik would make a ton of sense for them in such a scenario.

Gaborik is not capable of playing in the top 6 anymore though - he cannot score, or even contribute to his line scoring. His offense has completely dried up over the last 2 years despite still playing 15min a night and being given 60% offensive zone starts. You've also got to take into account his injury history (has averaged 20+ games lost to injury over the last 4 years).
With 4 more years @ $4.9M AAV remaining after this one, I don't think LA could pay anyone in the league to take Marian Gaborik. I expect Lombardi will convince him and the league that "he's hurt, forever", and we'll see him go to the LTIR for the remainder of his career, releasing the Kings of the cap burden that his contract is.

I can't help but wonder if his fit in L.A.'s system is responsible for his struggles. He looked almost like vintage Gaborik during the world championships in September.

I just am not sure the Flames make any more moves. Perhaps someone wants Brouwer or Chiasson?
I could see a potential goalie swap. I just don't know.

The way the team has been rolling on this road trip I'd be happy if the only move they made was getting some futures for Wideman.
They were reportedly looking for a winger with grit, but now Ferland is playing great on the top line. This is the best Monahan & Gaudreau have played all year. I wouldn't mess with it.
They were reportedly looking for a top 4 D and Stone is playing well in that role. Bartkowski has formed a good bottom pairing with Engelland.
Rumours that they were scanning the goaltender market, but Elliott has stepped up in the last little while & I doubt we could find an upgrade for cheap.
Everything seems to be coming together at just the right time. I doubt we see any fireworks from BT.

They've got 8 NHL defensemen up right now. They certainly could sit pat, let a couple of the guys on expiring contracts walk and not really miss out. Would be awesome to try to get some sort of value from Wideman/Jokipakka if it's possible.

Hanzal trade is not done yet. He will not play tonight, obviously. Deal could be finalized as early as this evening.

You need to post a source, and why would LA need Bishop with Quick back?

Furthering opinion of Kings making a move to bolster goaltending in next 24 hours, if I had to bet it would be Ben Bishop over Ryan Miller
