That had me laughing so hard my wife had to come and ask what was so funny. I introduced her to the trainwreck that is Springs1, and we both had a really good laugh over it.

How many servers REALLY bust ass you know for real? I truly don't know too many, because they are RARE that the WORK HARD AND TRY THEIR BEST.
Actually serving isn't really for the lazy. I'd say 50% of the jobs in the world involve less hard work, more sitting, etc.

Most servers at a busy restaurant work their asses off. Especially if they have to serve ######bags like you.

And yes, I have served. At fine dining, at busy trendy restaurants. Not any of the big chains you like to frequent though.

How has nobody asked for a picture of Springs1 yet? I would love a glimpse at this masterpiece of humanity.

I don't have one picture on the internet, NOT ONE. I don't have a facebook or myspace account or anything like that.

I feel I am average. I feel pretty, sexy, and attractive at TIMES(NOT ALL THE TIME OF COURSE such as when you get up in the morning), but I don't feel beautiful, but my husband tells me I am.

Does anyone else think Springs1 is someone's attempt at artificial intelligence? Only a computer could keep up such a rant for so long. It's the only logical explanation. For AI, springs is actually pretty good, I'd say. However it also lessens my fears of computers taking over the world anytime soon.

Two full days? Good god, right at it from 6am this morning? If you put as much effort in job searching as you do in your crusade against the service industry you might not have to live off unemployment.

I already tried to destroy it with the only known thing that can destroy AI. I made the statement:

"This sentence is a lie."

It did take it a good 10 minutes to post a reply after, but I fear that AI has now found a work around that kill switch.

I fear humanity is doomed. Springs1 is more dangerous than we are lead to believe, and I fear, it is now self aware.

I think I stopped reading at page 38 (I'll go back and catch up) however I just wanted to give Springs1 a piece of advice that has probably already been shared but may not have been so I'm going to share it regardless.

I have never worked in a restaurant (working the grill and fryers at Dairy Queen in high school doesn't really count as it's fast food not a "real" restaurant, and I didn't deal with the public).

I have worked many years in customer service, heck that's essentially what my career is in.

That said, I did my best to give the best customer service I could give. I always wanted to treat customers the same way I would want them to treat me. I would work hard to make customers happy, and do my best to solve their issues.

However, that doesn't mean my job was to bend over backwards to help them. I only did that if they, the customer, deserved to be helped in that manner. If the customer was demanding, and impolite, I would stick to the letter of the company policy. If they didn't like it, tough, I'd show them the door. If they were polite, and understanding I would do whatever I could to help satisfy them. I've had customers yell and scream at me, I've had customers take money out of their pockets and throw it at me and run because I would refuse their gratuity.

What's my point? My point is, the level of customer service you get is often, but not always, tied to the customer themselves.

If you walk into a restaurant, are cold, sterile, and give the wait staff your orders and that's all; you will get what you order (within reason mistakes happen), you will not get much chit-chat or small talk, and you will not see the server very often, just for the obligatory check-up to see how things are (and they probably don't want to disturb you if you weren't friendly to them at the start).

If your tone is aggressive, the server will avoid you. Why? Why would they keep going back to the aggressive person? They'd want to deal with you as little as possible, as people like to be in friendly, welcoming environments. If you are not providing that to the wait staff, don't expect them to shower you with love.

If you walk in, sit down, and smile at the waiter, when they ask "how are we this evening?" Don't answer "Fine" and put your head in the menu, say "swell thanks, it's a beautiful day out there, I bet you'd prefer to be out there rather than stuck in here eh? Oh geese you know what sorry I'm mistaken, it's horrible out there, hurricane rain and winds, you're so lucky to be in here and not have to venture out there, hahaha". If, you put the serve at ease, you will get exceptional service, most of the time.

See what people don't realize is that the customer has a role to play in customer service as well. They make up half of the transaction and have their weight to cover too.

The customer initiates the transaction, they are the one that walks into the restaurant, so they set the tone. If you set a good tone, you in turn will get better service.

Notice, at no point did I mention tipping as an incentive. This is another misconception. A waiter doesn't start with X% and then lose it based on service, it's gained based on the service, tone and level of customer service provided. It happens AFTER the transaction is complete.

How much a server is tipped should not reflect on your meal, how you act during the meal reflects on your meal.

212 posts in this thread alone. On a hockey forum. I doubt she would know what a puck is if it was served on a plate with a side of ranch. This has gone long past the point of amusing and is just sad.

I give this thread maybe another day and then it will fade again, but in a few months we'll want to have some fun again and just bring up her name and we can do it all over again.

Damn, this thread is so full of crazy. I have a feeling that the many hours spent unemployed have driven Springs1 towards finding a purpose and her purpose is badly written and crazy.

I am going to guess mid-thirties to early-forties.

Back to the actual topic on hand. I have a very simple tipping formula:

$0-50 = $10
$50-75 = $15
$75-100 = $20
$100+ = 20%

I will pay more for ultra exceptional service, but I think my formula is more than fair.

The only thing that does bug me is when servers actually provide terrible service and then people still tip big. For example, one day the waitress at a Chinese restaurant yelled at my friend for not knowing what was in a dish and then hastily dropped off our food and did not refill our glasses or anything. He still tipped her well.

My biggest peeve is when waitresses bring out meals at different times. Bring the entrees together, it is awkward when only one person has food.
