It's very likely. People are usually overly conservative on the great prospects. People said similar things about Crosby. "Oh, Crosby may be a great prospect, but I wouldn't take him over a proven star like Rick Nash."

Who said that? Not only was Crosby really highly touted (even more than McDavid IMO) but Nash was a 57 point guy at the time, and only 2 seasons into this career.
For sure at the time some would have said "I wouldn't trade Iginla/Sakic/Forsberg/Jagr for Crosby".

And? All you are saying confirms what my post says.
Ask any pundit and they will say the favorites are Eichel and McDavid. Does that mean they are going to win? No. They could both blow an ACL 10 games in. You never know.
Sure Bennett could score 70 points and win. He also could play like MacKinnon this year. You just never know.

What?? It won't be close and I'm an Oiler fan. You are talking about 1 player outscoring 3 players. "Close" means within 10 points I'd say. McDavid will put up somewhere around 65-70 points. Monahan and Gaudreau will put up around 60-65 each. Bennett will put up around 45-50.
65+60+50 = 175 vs McDavid's 65-70.

I suggest you read what other Oilers fans write every off-season, here and elsewhere, and revise your hyperbole drastically upwards.
When people talk in all seriousness about Omark, MPS, and a 2nd rounder for Shea Weber, or claim that Hall is the best LW in hockey, it kinda de-calibrates everyone's sarcasm detector pretty quickly.

I don't remember an article but I do remember Hrudey gushing over the Oilers on HNIC at around that time. I believe he was the one who said they would have 10 20+ goal scorers and the Oilers would get 300+ goals.

Terry Jones wrote an article about how the oilers would be the first team to score 300 since the 90's back in 2006, the year after they went to the finals. They finished 30th in goals for that year
