I like Subban and what he brings to the game. While I can agree that he is not a generational player or the single player to build a team around. I think he is a great addition to most NHL teams.

Subban is worth 8.5 million at least per in today's market. The Habs have never given that kind of contract before. They are blowing it. They will have to give him his massive deal or he walks.

and will easily clear 9M+ if MTL screws this up and has him get close to free agency in two years.

Okay. Now I'm convinced that you just like to make things up.

NO. Subban did not "just win" a Norris Trophy. He won the Norris the prior year, which also happened to be a shortened season and that does somewhat mitigate the accomplishment.

NO. Subban did not lead the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup Finals. In actual fact, his team was rather soundly dispatched by the NY Rangers in six games in the third round.

Toews and Kane's 10.5 per have upped the salaries for superstars now.

The "Bridge contract" has turned into a disaster for Montreal.

So you disagree with my opinion and have now twice appeared butthurt by my point of view.

I get it. You think the world of Subban. I don't. In fact, I think he is equally a liability as he is an elite talent. That may change as he matures.

But it appears you are responding with your emotions rather than a clear, factual thought process.

Again, we don't need to make this personal and add to that, emotional.

Its OK, man. Its OK.

Meant to say Eastern Conference finals but regardless. Team doesn't make the noise it did without him.

2 years ago is pretty recent. Never specified last year. In a bridge prove yourself 2 year contract he won a Norris and help lead his team to the Eastern Conference finals. Can't really ask for much more than that.

Lol. I think you must have me confused with yourself. I'm also just stating my opinion. "Emotion" never even crossed my mind. In fact your the one who said you HATED Subban and thought he was "such a loser." Pretty strong emotions to have about a total stranger. Sounds like you might be the emotional one. But hey...

It's OK, man. It's OK.

And for the record I'm not even that big of a Subban fan, I just realize his importance to the Habs. Calling him a complimentary player is ridiculous.

I would say that spectacular goaltending got them as far in the playoffs as they went. PK had some good moments but Price/Tokarski were lights out for most of the games.

I think most would agree that the Canadians are a lot louder with Subban.

Edit: the more I read, the more i think the team is who decides between 1 or 2 years, is that correct?

Reason I'm asking is because my buddy said Subban is asking for 2 years and the Canadians are asking for 1. I think that's wrong though.

Yes.

Whichever side didn't file for arbitration gets to determine the length. Since Subban filed, the Habs got the choice.

Ok, I can understand the club strong-arming him for a bridge deal. They played hard-ball, he broke, and they got him for a "show me" contract that was less than his market value.

But then he SHOWED THEM.

They bent him over, and now that he's trying to exert some leverage, I can't say I feel one bit sorry for them.

He is worth $8.5m, so give him the money. And if he wants to use it as a stepping stone to a bigger contract at the end of this one, well then that's the time to play hard ball. When he's actually asking more than he's worth. But right now he's asking for his fair market value.

I don't understand taking a kid to arbitraton when he is asking for a salary that is well in line with what he brings to the team.

You win buds. PK is the greatest. GJ, your astute observations and sly debating methods have turned my opinion on Subban. As the person who you think is the loser... I will do... Nothing.
