I disagree on Leslie, though it may be time to retire her Update appearances. I think she has shown range, and will be a break-out star of the cast before long.

Leslie Jones’ latest keep-yelling-until-they-laugh monologue still feels like it belongs in a comedy club, microphone in hand, an emcee bit between headliners. This is disappointing, as Jones has proven to be one of this cast’s most impressive screen actors. She really shouldn’t have to do these bits anymore. Jones has earned her spot on this stage and the Saturday Night Live writers need to figure out how to give her material that can fulfill her promise.

I've found the vast majority of skits this season to be more awkward and cringey than anything. Leslie Jones tries to combat that by being annoyingly loud, but only a fraction of those end up being funny.

Well she is also one of the writers, so can't really fault the writing staff

The show last night was really solid. It was one of the best in quite a while. I couldn't get into the musical performances though and has to change the channel after 15 or 20 seconds.

Agree- that was a solid show from beginning to end (except the music). Larry was awesome. Bern Your Enthusiasm really had the look and feel of a Curb episode and they melded it perfectly into the recent events of the Iowa vote. I also really liked Vansessa in the super bowl sketch. Weekend Update was probably the best of the year - Colin and Michael are finally developing some chemistry. The fact that Zoolander and Hansel were the weakest part of update says a lot.
I could see Larry coming back in a couple of years and becoming one of the regular hosts (like Baldwin and Martin), he was that good and surprisingly versatile in the sketches.

I felt this weeks episode was possibly the strongest written of the year, but it didn't have that huge laugh that makes a sketch truly memorable. It was more solid and consistent than most, and I enjoyed it, but nothing truly stood out for me.
Probably doesn't help I was never much of a Curb fan. Larry was good overall though, strong host. Good monologue too.

Pretty funny last episode. Kanye West makes some bunk music though. .. still can't believe how successful he is and I am a hip hop fan.
Second sone was decent after Kanyes weird auto tuned intro. The other people were talented

That was the first episode I've watched in a few years, and wow was it ever terrible. The Beyonce skit was ok, everything else was pretty dumb. Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones are terribly unfunny

One of the worst episodes that I've seen.
Melissa McCarthy is terribly unfunny and plays the same character over and over with the only difference being her appearance.
Leslie Jones needs to go, she's terrible, so does Thompson, he peaked in the Mighty Ducks movies and has been brutally awful ever since.
Right now to me Cecily Strong is probably the best talent that they have and is far better then the incredibly unfunny Kristen Wig (who can't carry a movie, but is fine in a secondary role)
Kanye is garbage, I don't get the hype, he's terrible.

Agree 100% on all accounts. Melissa McCarthy is an unfunny female version of Chris Farley.

I've got mad love for Cecily, but Taran Killam is easily the best on the show right now, and Pete Davidson is a close second.

They need new material. Getting sick of all the black jokes.

And that pick-up line sketch was pretty much unwatchable.

Yeah, I think the thing with the race jokes is that us in Canada aren't the target audience. Apparently there was some kerfuffle about Beyonce's show. I know Fox was all on about it. So the sketches make sense from that point of view, but it's probably more funny or controversial in America.
I feel the same way when Vanessa Bayer does her little jewish kid act on Weekend Update. Probably a lot more funny for a New York with a big jewish minority, but a big snore for me.
I'll agree yesterday's episode wasn't very good. Melissa was funny early, then become tiring quickly. I liked the horror skit at least. Leslie's Valentine's Day rant was tired (and what was that bit about dead flowers? certainly hung onto that way too long)
And I'll say it again, Kyle Mooney is terrible. As soon as he started that rap battle sketch you knew all the jokes, exactly how it'd turn out. His 'loser' character is such a tired trope.
Kate McKinnon is still good though. Between her multitude of impressions, and her strong acting in most skits, she's probably the strongest cast member right now. Kinda taking over Tina's reins.

SNL rode Cecily pretty strong for quite a while but they seem to have moved away from her quite a bit recently. I remember her being in pretty much every skit but now I don't even notice her on the show (or maybe the skits just aren't as memorable.)

Finally watched the Larry David ep, I thought it was solid. Bern Your Enthusiasm was obviously great, man I miss that show. All the support cast impressions were funny and well done (save for Moynihan's Jeff), Jay Pharaoh's Leon was classic.
I loved the Kevin Roberts sketch too. Interesting how early they did it, had the feel of a usual after WU sketch, but it was so funny and random. Larry was killing me, Keenan Thompson's reactions were hilarious too. "Why does Kevin Roberts have friends and a storyline??"
