The "Oscar" skit was awesome.

Perhaps all those years of being with the bieb's has wrecked her vocal chords

CaptainCrunch summed it up really well. I was also surprised to see that they reused the Settling commercial bit. I think they aired that a couple weeks ago and they used it again to fill time. Weak.
You know it's a weak episode when the re-run a commercial parody late in the show. That usually means that at least one sketch from the dress rehearsal bombed so badly that they pulled it and had nothing to replace it with.

Athlete hosts are usually the worst hosts, which makes sense since they don't have a lot of experience with playing characters or improv.

I doubt if it was a nice and sunny day yesterday in New York that the show would have been any better. Most of the show would have already been written before the weather turned bad.

I don't know, Peyton Manning and Joe Montana were probably up there in terms of guests, and especially athletic guests, The Rock in his WWE days was awesome especially with HHH and Show involved.

Quarterbacks seem to be the rare athletes who do well on SNL. The Tom Brady Sexual Harassment sketch is one of my all-time favourites.

Wrestlers have so much experience with performing in front of live audiences and needing to be able to react to any situation if something goes wrong that they're perfect for a show like SNL.

Except for the rare exception, athlete hosts aren't very good.

The same can be said for singers/musicians who host. Most are bad, but you get the rare performer like Justin Timberlake who are amazing. From what I remember, Taylor Swift was really good when she hosted too.

I thought RR was fine; they just gave her nothing to do. Manning and Montana had much better writers. Their skits would have been terrible based on their wooden performances alone. I was disappointed RR didn't have more on her plate. We don't know if she has ability, but she isn't wooden like most athletes are.

I'm surprised so many people didn't enjoy the episode. I thought it was pretty good.

They did rerun the commercial. But they did that last time and the time before. They reran the Angieslist one with the low level sexual offenders doing contracting work. Getting used to it anyway I guess. Sucks, but I don't feel it took away from the show too much.

I didn't think too much of RR, but she wasn't really used. I couldn't comment one way or the other.

I thought Weekend Update was strong today. 'Nice try Willy, but we're not putting you down.' Some good jokes from Jost and Che too. Leslie was good too, maybe a touch long, but a strong finish.

Thought the Oscar won was strong. The 'Mean Girls' type skit was decent. I'll admit I laughed at the teacher one (I'm a monster, whatever), Pete cracks me up.

Selena was pretty bad. It's bubblegum pop though, I can't stand it, so I wasn't expecting anything. I noticed her off key in the second song for sure. Least her leg was looking might fine in the first song.

Opener was excellent, Tina crushed it. She's got the look and voice and personality down. Hilarious impression. She seems more Palin than the real Palin does.

And the monologue was decent too. I liked the idea anyway. A few chuckles.

Three to four good sketches, and a decent monologue with a good weekend update. That's pretty full. Knew the music was going to suck anyway.

I thought it was an awful episode. The skit where she ate the dog food and was set up, you just knew what was going to happen. I think that skit was saved by Vanessa Bayer.

Selena Gomez has always been a terrible singer. She covers it up by doing all these breathy type songs, where she isn't really singing.

Also, they don't seem to use Taran Killam as much as they used to, which I don't like. I think he's great.

Well yeah, that was the point of that skit. Of course it was predictable and obvious. Those types of movies are too. But the funny was in Vanessa's reactions.

I was thinking the one time where she got up winded could been even better if they equipped her with one of those vomit props in her sleeve, hahah.

I'm kind of getting sick of every show opening with Trump/Republican candidates.

So Larry David is hosting SNL Feb 6.

Has he hosted before?

I was thinking the same thing when the show opened up but then I remembered Palin was in the news this week and Tina Fey would probably be on.

Hard to blame them when there's so much wacky coming out of that corner.

But if there are no big developments or surprises I'd be down with them cooling off the political angle for a while.

The cold open is almost always political in nature. Since we're now at the start of an election year, the cold open will likely be election related every week until November.

Right now, the Republican candidates are the crazy nut bars, so they're pretty easy targets, especially Trump.

SNL has made it reputation on political lampooning going back to the 70's. Election time is a bonanza for them.

While I enjoyed the Tina Fey skit at the start with Trump, I kept thinking, I swear I've seen this before.

As much as I think Will Ferrell is incredibly unfunny, his George W Bush is his best work.

Thoughts on Kyle Mooney....I find myself very disinterested when I see him on stage. He doesn't annoy me or anything, I just don't find him all that engaging.

Got to watch on the pvr last night, she sounded far better live.
I thought Rhonda did great, she never looked out of place and seemed to hit all of her lines.

If anyone ever gets an opportunity to go see the show live I highly recommend it. So much going on the whole time. Micheal Che was doing stand up when we entered the theater (R rated), followed by Kenan Thompson singing a song with Sasheer Zamata, Vanessa Bayer & Kate McKinnnon dancing/singing alongside him before the show started. Lorne Michaels could be seen pacing around making sure everything went as scripted.
Overall great experience.

I couldn't imagine spending 3 minutes in the same room as Leslie. Is overbearing and loud considered funny? I keep waiting for a bit of range from her but man oh man she is excruciating.
Pete is even more 2 dimensional with that oafish, pothead grin.

Leslie cracked me up the first couple times I saw her do her thing on WU. She gets old fast though. It's like that one fun but annoying friend you can only handle once in awhile when you're in the right mood. Agreed, she has no range. Or at least hasn't shown any to date.

This, everytime I see her character on weekend update, the loud obnoxious horny woman, I groan.

She's like Farrell, she plays the same character over and over again.

The bland guy skit was funny because they pretty much had the girls exactly like the ones currently on the bachelor (yes I watch it with my wife and it's almost as funny as SNL). The best was when Sasheer came out and said "I'm the black one, everyone I know has died" and he said "I like that, you get the sympathy rose" because that entire skit was pretty much bang on.
