I agree. I thought it was really well done. It started to get annoying though how Gosling kept laughing. It surprised me actually. I loved the alien skit and the Santa skit, even though it was bizarre. Definitely a strong episode.

Agreed, those were both great skits. I couldn't stop laughing at the alien skit, so funny.

I just loved how the bar from Cornwall, Ontario really represented the sports vibe in Ontario accurately. 4 pieces of Blue Jays memorabilia and 2 Leafs.
Gosling was really flat, and Myers carried it. I was thinking maybe Myers should be the host, but then the show got better.
Which Santa skit are you all referring too? The one with Gosling and Vanessa? Or the one with the naughty elves? The naughty elves has been done before at least once, and they didn't add anything to that. Cecily was featured a lot in this show.
That first Santa Skit was the best skit by far, but a fully produced segment should be better than the live ones solely on the basis that there can be retakes. It was right down my alley of dark comedy and not something SNL does too often.
I also liked the George Clooney/Danny Devito Nespresso commercial, cause that's pretty much how I feel about it. I guess it's supposed to be Clooney grooming Devito so that he's cool enough or debonair enough for the Nespresso, but it's really just stupid.

To be fair with the laughing, he was going up against some hilarious characters.

Dunno if anyone else got this, but they were going for a Tarantino vibe in that Santa skit for sure. That made it doubly funny for me. Even the font was Jackie Brown. And the baby - baby, totally honey bear from the first scene in Pulp Fiction. The dance in the middle, the taking the room hostage, pure Tarantino. Great sketch, but non live are easier to get right.
Alien skit stole the show. Best skit of the year, IMO. Other than that, I thought it was pretty average, as was Gosling.
Was it me, or did they have him dubbed on The Wiz takeoff?
Yes, I picked up on the vibe they were trying to create. It was still bizarre, mixed with a Christmas party and Santa. I liked it, but bizarre.
And I disagree about him laughing because he was up against hilarious characters. The Alien sketch, fine, but the rest, I don't buy that excuse. I think it's a little bit of trying to get the crowd going, cause the crowd always laughs more when the actors break.
