I thought the monologue was excellent. They should have just had 90 minutes of stand up.

Sam Smith was interesting. I hadn't heard anything of his before. He has a unique voice.

But I agree, weak episode.

I thought Louis acting and facial expressions were hilarious on the Black Jeopardy skit. But yeah, the writing seemed to be way off on this one.

Also, even though the pre-recorded bits are often the best, I think putting too many in takes away from the spirit of the show. No reason to have more than one, plus a commercial or music video one. This had what, three and a commercial? Too many.

Agreed, really bad episode. Most of the skits were just bizarre.

Black Jeopardy was pretty funny, as were the two pre-recorded skits and the monologue. Sam Smith was awesome too.

Opening monologue was pretty great, though.

Loved the chicken part.

"People always ask, 'what came first the chicken or the egg?'. Of course it's the egg. You can't just go (motions hands like he's magically making a chicken appear) CHICKEN! and just CHICKEN!.

No, it needs to come from something. Then people always say 'Well then where did the egg come from?'. From a chicken, you idiot!

So I rarely catch SNL these days, but did watch last night (Anna Kendrick).

The "Les Jeunes de Paris" sketch was really one of the best SNL sketches I've seen in a while.

http://www.justjaredjr.com/2014/04/0...-cups-for-snl/

I can definitely see it as a "you either loved it or hated" type of sketch. I loved it. (Though, it works much better as a late night sketch than a watch the next day type of thing.)

So help me out... I did not get it. It went right over my head. I had a deer in headlights look the entire skit. What am I missing?

Well, this is going to sound a little comedy hipsterish...but here it goes.

SNL caters to a wide audience, with varying tastes. For my personal taste, there is often a lot of "middle of the road" humour, which doesn't appeal to me. I like it when they push the boundaries a bit, take a risk, put together a sketch that you know will leave some people scratching their heads. That is part of the appeal. Doing risky comedy live makes it even more appealing, because you know it can easily fall flat on its face, so you appreciate it when it pulls through.

Also, you have to consider how the sketches are meant to be viewed. As a live late night sketch show, it works best if you are watching with a few like minded friends, having a good time, maybe a few drinks. Doing something zany just for effect works in this context. Watching a video on the web the next day is a completely different setting, and the zaniness can just look a little stupid.

TL;DR It's funny because you know some people won't find it funny, and this somehow works when broadcast after midnight on Saturday night.

Thought it was a great SNL!

I'm also a huge fan of the Paris sketch, love it every time.

bradster57: There's not a lot to "get," it's just an exaggeration of America's stereotyped version of French youth culture. Just goofy and fun!

Yeah I don't get Les Jeunesses either. Well actually I "get" it. I just don't find it very funny. I get the fact that it's likely how Americans best interpret French culture, but it always leaves me feeling meh. What is this, like the 5th incarnation of that skit now?

Other than that, gotta love Anna Kendrick <3_<3

I don't understand why guys like Anna Kendrick. I really don't.

Having said that, I don't hate her. I thought she would be good on SNL. She wasn't bad, but I just got sick of the singing. I think she sang in just about every sketch and it got tedious.

I thought it was a pretty blah episode. I did like the Little Mermaid sketch, mainly for Ursula.

I'm also sick of that "attention teachers and students..." character.

Thought it was the best one, I've seen in awhile.
3 great parts in WU, the John Boehner line, the butter down the pants rant, and Angela Merkel.
Most other skits were above average.

The Paris sketch was one of the best of the season. Amazing.

I enjoyed the episode, but did every sketch have to be a song or dance? I love Anna Kendrick and she's really funny! She doesn't have to sing everything!

The butter thing and the "best of the white guys" video were also great.

Yeah Brendan Wheeler seems like a great comedian. That butter bit was hilarious.

Yeah, I really enjoyed his bit on weekend update earlier in the season about his tattoos too! Really funny guy.
