That's true, but before coming back to Canada a few years ago and joining Sportsnet, Romanuk was stationed in Europe and he did the play-by-play of the Spengler Cup for several years.

Yep, you are 100% right.

Abbotsford had some seriously good AHL goaltending. Taylor was really consistently good, and then Brust comes in and does this:

Quote:
Brust, a goalie for the Abbotsford Heat, broke Hall of Famer Johnny Bower's 55-year American Hockey League record for consecutive minutes played without allowing a goal. Bower's mark was 249 minutes, 51 seconds set in the 1957-58 season with the Cleveland Barons.
Brust now owns the mark after playing the first 18:11 of the Heat's game against the San Antonio Rampage on Saturday without giving up a goal.
He extended his scoreless streak to 268:17 before James Wright of San Antonio scored at 16:36 of the second period
https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-p...2186--nhl.html

Hopefully he catches fire and does the same thing during the tournament.

Brust played 11 games for the 06-07 LA Kings. Those were his only NHL games.

Looking it up further... yup, Dec 29, 2006, Iginla had a goal and three assists to beat the LA Kings 6-4, with Barry Brust in net for the Kings. Huselius had two empty net goals, and the Kings scored twice with their goalie pulled (one of them by Conroy)

Canada plays today.

Does anyone know if it is available on US tv?

I think it is on YouTube...curious if there are any TSN feeds into the US?

I am surprised there is not more interest on this board for this tourney given the Olympic implications...

The team is filled with hasbins or never was players. It's a travesty and I hope the Olympics feel the pain.

It would at least be interesting if players in the CHL, AHL and college were more prominent but watching Mason Raymond and a mixed bag of other NHL castoffs compete for gold is not overly enticing for most of us.

Hey, these are guys playing hockey not for the glory, but for a living, and in the Spengler Cup, and Olympics, for their country. No need to turn noses up.

I remember while in Grade 10,this game on during the day. 92 Olympic QF.

Lindros who hasn’t played.
Dave King coach
Adrian Plavsic, Dave Tippett, Kent Mandervillle, Burke in net.

Drysaddles dad with the final miss as the puck stops on the goal line.

The fantastic Don Whitman on the call, Peplinski doing color. QF game to a shootout.
Full version

End:

Went to the final in 1992,most of the country got up for that, 1994 of course as the gold medal game that also went to a shootout. Most of the country got up for that one as well, even though the names on the back weren’t as glamorous.

HC Mountfield scored with the goalie pulled to make it 4-3, but PA Pareateau slides the puck into the empty net to make the final 5-3 for Canada. Barry Brust played well between the pipes for Canada.

That was a great game. It's clear these guys have played a few together before, it was lots less sloppy than the openers in years previous.

Davos was just soaring today. Beating Mountfield HK handedly 5-1. The crowd was electric for the host teams tournament opener.

Davos will probably be Canada's toughest match up of the round robin. I am looking forward to tomorrow's game at 12:15 pm.

Hc Davos is usually the hardest to beat.

I know Rochester of the AHL has gone in this a few times. Would be interesting to see a Flames AHL team team go over just for the experience. I'm sure there is a ton of insurance and other issues that make it unlikely but would be fun to see.

Canada taking on HC Davos right now - Davos leading 1-0 and Canada needs to stay out of the penalty box (four straight penalties taken by Canada in this opening period).

Andrew Ebbett rifles a wrist shot home and it's all tied up 1-1 in the 2nd period.

I don't think this will be the same team that's going to the Olympics.
