I thought this interview on CBC with a member of the Oath Keepers who have shown up in Ferguson very interesting.

I find myself having very mixed feelings about their particular position.

Quote:
Massachusetts man assaulted 7 officers after traffic stop, ranted about Ferguson, saluted in mug shot: cops

Joseph Parker, 34, of Wakefield, was driving through a construction zone when police asked him to slow down at about 12:40 a.m. Tuesday morning, police said.

Instead, Parker allegedly jumped out of his car and punched one officer, Lt. Jeremiah Goodwin, in the head. He then headed towards a second officer. Goodwin fell on concrete after Parker punched him, and suffered a concussion
Quote:
That started a violent spree that included attacking three officers who tried to arrest him, and three more cops once he was booked at the police station, authorities said.

Police said Parker appeared to be on drugs during the alleged attack, screaming “F--- you cops with your guns” and ranting about Ferguson, Mo.

When handcuffed in the back of a police car he kicked a window several times in an attempt to break the glass and flee the cruiser. Once the glass cracked, he then removed his shoes and tried to stick it through in a failed attempt to escape, police said.

He was also Tased a few times but it had little effect.
Quote:
He then gestured to the exit and informed the cops “I’m walking out that door.”

He then became violent again crouching in a boxer’s stance in a corner and challenging the officers to a fight. The suspect then charged a cop and punched him in the face.

As authorities tried to subdue him another officer sustained a leg injury. Three others sustained cuts and abrasions, police said.

When being booked in the police station he also broke a metal detector, police said.
Spoiler!

I don't understand why he was not still cuffed when in the staiton tho? They knew he had just been arrested in a violent situation.

Nope. Again, what's the implication, because dudes don't get shot or choked out for that type of thing every night.

Neither do 99%+ of people who get detained/arrested in the USA whether white, black, blue, yellow or red.

Oathkeepers are a bunch of loons. They are the fringe of the fringe in the military and they have a twisted view of their oath. Their position is that they have no responsibility to follow orders they believe to against their interpretation of the constitution. Two problems with that perspective. First, they are soldiers and expected to follow orders. If they don't, the chain of command breaks down and chaos ensues. Second, their interpretation of the constitution is based almost exclusively on the Bill of Rights, and a little selection of rights as well. Really, all you need to know about these crazies is this quote at the start of the story.

"Sam, what kind of gun is that, hanging on a sling?" And I would say, "The kind of gun that you should have on your person so the police can't violate your rights."

Really? You need to protect yourself from the police? The SPLC is right on the money. The Oathkeepers are enemies of the state and just waiting for their opportunity to get into an engagement where they can show off their "advanced training." A very scary group when emotions are already running at a dangerously high level.

here is an instance that sees things from the law enforcement perspective and although it does zero to alleviate the guilt of some of these guys, it may explain why some have acted the way they have.

The city of Baltimore just paid out Freddie Gray's family $6.4 million. Apparently no results from an investigation or trial needed.

So the guy who got shot did have a 3-inch knife on him, but is there not a way to subdue him without shooting him 16 times? Cop has been charged with murder.

Police deleted footage from a Burger King security camera shorty after the shooting

How can you conclude anything other than they were covering up a murder? That's some totalitarian state bull####

The cop wasn't trying to subdue him, he wanted to kill him. I heard on CNBC that the cop unloaded an entire clip on the kid, reloaded, and got one more round off before another cop stopped him. The reloading of the second clip seems to be the reason why they are charging him with 1st degree murder.

If it is true the CPD deleted the video footage from the Burger King restaurant, then that's conspiracy, and stuffs going to get much worse. It wouldn't surprise me, if there actually is audio to accompany the dash-cam video.

I'd say the trial will focus around the shots fired while he was on the ground and why, if he did, he reloaded and tried to keep firing.

Depolying lethal force against a subject brandishing a knife at officers is completely fine, especially when you consider the proximity. But the force applied is only appropriate to the point where the threat in neutralized. And before its brought up, police do not shoot legs, arms, hands or at weapons; doing so would be foolish.

Regardless of length, a knife is a deadly weapon. OC and tasers would not be the correct tool as they are not guaranteed to be effective, the fact that he was under the influence of PCP further reduces their effectiveness.

The guy wasn't that close to them nor did he make a move toward them.

Looked like he was about 10-15 feet away and not staying still. Even without a cop having to unholster, the subject could make it to striking distance by the time the trigger is pulled once the cop realizes he's coming directly at him.

The officers actions once the subject was on the ground definitely need to be scrutinized kn court, but the initial use of force could be easily justified.

Agreed. It doesn't look like he was "brandishing" the knife, merely holding it. Cops always break out the same line in this type of situation, that they feared for their life. 90% of the public buy their reasoning without even questioning it.

I'm also bothered that no one bothers to attend to the kid. It's like they've just shot a stray dog.

The scariest thing is that such low lifes like this cop and the South Carolina cop earlier this year have repeated, documented instances of excessive force or straight up brutality, yet they keep them out on the street. This guy for instance did this a year ago so he might have been on the street for a whole other year, doing who knows what.

There's also the fact that such psychopaths are even allowed to meet the standards to become cops in the first place. Either the standards are too low or the training is simply abysmal. But it's ridiculous to think there are many more like this cop out there. There needs to be much more work being done to train cops on community policing and not the "Us vs. them" mentality that so many cops seem to have.
