For my money, it's the Mamma's Meatloaf sandwich at Spolumbos. Only available on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Wow.

Also known as My Sub. Great people, great subs. They do the quick toasty thing before they turn it over to you.
Donair: Place on 5th ave and 6th st called Pita basket or something. Great huge donairs.

They are usually pub fare/greasy spoon diner fare, but the place I used to enjoy them, I can no longer frequent (and never liked frequenting there in the first place, but thats a different story).

Best Donair in town and the rest don;t even come close, is Amin's Donair on 7th Ave between 1st and Centre SW. It's a little place that sells Donairs and smokes, that's it. Sketchy part of town and Amin can be cranky or nice, nothing in between, but man - are they awesome!
Try it

OMG, are you guys serious@ the Elbow River Casino vietnamese subs?! I have had Vietnamese subs from various places, but never did try the ones at Elbow and heard that they weren't very good. Actually, I've heard that they are okay as a sandwich, but don't really taste like Vietnamese subs, whatever that means.
My favorite ones are definitely from Banh Mi Thi Thi across from Harry Hayes. Mmmm MMMM! And sadly, the Vietnamese place in Kensington on 10th street is GONE!!! That was a sad day for me, since I work closeby, and found those to be almost, as good as Banh Mi.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Beef Dip at Joey Tomatoes! That would be my other favorite sandwich.

Holy motherfarker, that brings back memories for me. There was a restaurant near there that I went to one time where I saw a drug bust go down right in front of the window me and my friends were sitting in front of.

2nd (I think) vote for Peppino's in kensington, can't go wrong with a spicy meatball sub, or joe's special.

My Donair in Southland Crossing used to make awesomely huge donairs. Haven't been there in a while tho since there's a little place right across from my place in Evergreen now that sells great donairs. Dont think I've ever really gotten the name of the place, but it's in a little strip mall on 162nd St. and 24th Ave. in the corner across from the Bull & Finch. It's a little Italian bistro kinda deal. A bit pricey but daaaaamn tastey... Now I want one for breakfast.

Another vote for Keith's. The special is the greatest snadwich ever made, but make it a double Keith's and I'm in heaven.
The Italian Store off of McKnight and Deerfoot by Westjet there also has some amazing sandwiches.
For Donairs, we always go to the place in Shawnessy called My Donair (I think), they are the best I can find. Their Shesh Tawook (sp?) is also the best I've had.

My submission to this thread would look exactly like this in every way.
I also think the Subway by that bull and Finch is my favorite Subway in town.
They take the time to make it nicely, and never stinge out on the toppings.
Worst Subway in town is the one above Macs on 7th ave, and second to that is the one at the Uni. They rush through the process and you can taste the difference.
Oh, and also, there's a 3 pack of subs for $5 at Sobeys deli. Nothing special, but a good deal for something to pack along on a road trip or something.

Just walked by today... a notice from the landlord's lawyer is posted on the door... looks like Merles haven't been paying them or the builder who placed a lien on the place.
Hopefully something good goes in there, looks like a nice space.

Jimmy's A and A on the corner of 20th Ave and 13th St. N.W., just north of SAIT. I have been working up in that area since January and go there a couple of times a week. Fantastic donairs, but stick with the medium size. It's like a large and only $6.50

i was just about to say,
you haven't had a shawarma until you have gone to JIMMY'S A&A
i've been to a few
this place blows falafel king out of the water.
also, i dig palace of eats, they serve those old time boylans sodas which i just adore. merle's in kensington does a nice reubin, but it is only open once in a blue moon.
i've been going to the lazy loaf since i was a wee tyke, so i've got fond memories of the place. although they have sort of wrecked the atmosphere with all of the renovations, the sandwiches have never changed.

Well that was quick. I don't think they were around even six months. What a joke.

Well once again CP does not steer me wrong. Given the number of recommendations for Keiths in thread I decided it was high time to try 'er out.
Dear god that is one fine sandwhich.
