Depends on who falls. Day has made it to the 3rd on a few mock drafts I've seen. He could end up being a rock solid Suter type.
There seems to be almost no consistency after the top 20 or so. Players go in the 1st, or the 3rd. I have no idea with this draft. It's all over the place.

Obviously I'm shooting in the dark here, but has anyone heard anything about Wade Allison? 6ft 2in RW, ranked 62 by central scouting. Played in the USHL this season, going to Western Michigan to play hockey next season. What interests me though is that his mid term ranking was 192, so he's risen by 130 places in half a season. That's a hell of a jump. Could be worth a look with one of our acquired 2nds perhaps?

@JJ
Wade has made a bit of a splash during the second half, and he would be a great late round pick (4th or later) but I've heard his skating is an issue. Poop acceleration, low top end speed. Has weak lateral east-west movement.

After I reading the scouting report ( http://lastwordonsports.com/2016/04/...-nhl-draft-29/) he gained traction on me.
Honestly I'm more nervous the Stars 1st won't be available to us.

Bumping this thread as we now know the Stars' pick is a 2nd rounder. So we have three second rounders. Anyone have a preference on what to do?
Trade a couple to get a late first rounder? Or is it not worth it?
Keep the 3 picks and select a goalie, defenseman and forward?
Package for a goalie?

Taking a while to get to 5000

Try to package them for a goalie, but without that 1st the Flames are likely going to add a prospect or two if they want a bonafide starter

2 2nds for Fleury? Add Poirier?

Depends on the situation really.
For instance, if Julien Gauthier drops into the 20's (which is very possible) I would love the Flames to package #35 with another pick to move up and snag him.
If they can get a young goalie with lots of upside for a couple 2nds, then I'm Ok with that too.
Really not a fan of packaging futures for a goalie who's north of 30 though. Doesn't fit with the time line of this team.

Probably trade 35 in a package for a goalie and use the other 2 2nds to pick or as currency in other deals.
If you look at goalie trades in the last 12 months
Lehner - 1st Round Pick (21st Overall - 2015)
Talbot - 2nd & 3rd Round Picks (57 & 79th Overall - 2015)
Jones - 1st Round Pick (25-30th Overall - 2016)
IMO the cost of goalies will be a little cheaper this year with a buyers market and the threat of an expansion draft, so a similar cost for the Flames would be something like the 35th overall & 95th overall picks (2nd and 4th).
Would leave the Flames with the 6th, 53rd, 55th, & 65th picks still to have in other trades or to use to make picks.

The difference being that the Flames would be more interested in another team's starter which means a much steeper price if it can be done at all. Bishop for example won't be had for that cost. Might be an overreaction but I think the loss of the additional 1st round pick turfs the chances of the Flames getting a goalie via trade without losing more than just picks.

I think 35+65 can get us Halak, no?

Might not even need to do 2 picks. Could be a roster move in there as well.

You are assuming we would want another team's starter though - my guess is we go the same route as those other teams and look at a younger backup, somebody like Murray, Pickard, Hammond, Vasilevskiy, Korpisalo, Kuemper, Allen, or Andersen.
If you look at a starter now it's probably somebody like Halak or Fleury, who IMO will not cost a lot. I think the ship has sailed on Elliott or Bishop due to the strong playoff performance.
We potentially looking at signing Reimer to help support the other younger goalie if we go that route.

Of all those names of young goalies up there on Supermatts list. I want Joonas Korpisalo like not other. I'd move the #6 pick easy to CLB if that's what it took.

Not enough of a body of work IMO.
If I'm Treliving I easily phone up Detroit and offer #6 for Mrazek though.

While a nice thought, why would Detroit even think about trading away Mrazek?
