Where was all this hatred during the various open houses and new stories when all this information was available? I don't get it. I know someone living in Cranston and they too were surprised this week when this problem hit the media.
It sucks yes, as I use to go to Cranston from 52nd to 22x and will have to switch to Deerfoot now. I do however see the reason and when I remember the goal of the Ring Road is to provide easy bypass of Calgary with minimal restrictions, then I'm ok with it. Weave zones do not work and on a main provincial highway, it's not going to help the flow.

That would require taking the effort to attend open houses. I've been to some (for rather important projects) that had less than 50 people show up. Not surprisingly the average person therefore doesn't know what's coming until it's too late.
When they say that community input matters at these things, they aren't lying. I can recall that access management was adjusted based on comments from the functional planning study by businesses in the SE.

An almost exact duplicate of this problem can be found in Edmonton. If you are heading north on Hwy 2 and want to take Anthony Henday west to 111st, you can't. You are forced onto Anthony Henday and can't get to the ramp to your right.
When I lived on 111st north of AH, it was a pain for the first few months. But quickly everyone adjusted and it ended up not being a problem at all.
In that case, the communities voiced their concern, but it was decided traffic coming from that direction weren't primarily commuters and the cons of possible traffic backups outweighed saving a few minutes of commute for the others.

Don't believe so. I spent enough time trying to draw a ramp there and couldn't make it work (and not badly break the rules) without an extremely long bridge flying east to west over the northern part of the interchange. A basketweave would only reduce it from 2 extremely bad weaves to 1 very bad weave.

111th st, Parsons Road, and Ellersie Road all have limited access from one or the other of Hwy 2 and Anthony Henday.

Ha, no doubt. Just to bring some balance to the whining, Cranston does have its own awesome fly-over directly to NB Deerfoot. It's elevated above the entire stretch of Stoney and is a huge, sweeping turn begging for me to see how fast I can get across it. Should be fun if the construction ever completes.

^ Yeah and it currently makes my access onto NB Deerfoot from WB Stoney coming from Mahogany feel like a death defying stunt every day the way they have the idiotic yield set up at the moment.
I'd like to yield and wait, but you get idiots behind you honking their horns wanting to you to treat it like there's an alternating right of way sign and then the people coming from Cranston some times try to be nice and let you in, but sometimes don't, which is fine, but the whole thing is unpredictable...

They need to get that fixed ASAP, that might be yet another thing holding back the final audit.

Yup, it's only a matter of time until there is a major accident there. I have seen several close calls. Why not stick a dude with a stop sign there until they are done adding the second merge lane?

Because a yield sign with a flag on top hasn't caused a fatality yet, so why not just tough out these last few weeks.

I know 114th ave and 68th street is getting work done for the interchange up there. There's been a ton of activity around McIvor and 68th street, relocating powerlines or something...
My question is, are they planning on connecting McIvor with 68th? So you can go straight up that way to 114th? Seems like all they'd have to do is build a few metres of asphalt to link the two roads... but I have no idea what's going in there now that Race City is gone..
Also, the SE Website says the 130th interchange is complete... I assume that's nothing special? My understanding was 130th wasn't being touched for a few years, basically just building up the dirt for the future...

I believe 68th is now a local dump road. Access is restricted at the landfill entrance and it's used to travel within the dump itself.
130th is also not completed to Stoney. The map is incorrect, but it's planned for later completion.

What's the deal with 61st? I see crews working there sometimes, but it looks like that interchange is aways away.

It's not an interchange, only a flyover... so not really a big deal overall (though it's supposed to be done)

A crucial flyover for some of us.
But yeah, I thought it was an interchange, but a flyover is even better. And it's not even close to being done.

I meant we're not waiting for the 61 Ave flyover before they open the main route. I've seen a few people mention its importance. I'm glad it's there.
