Tsuu Těna vote in favor of exploring the possibility of talking about entering new negotiations around the exploration of analysis of proposals towards discussions of recommendations for suggestions of ring road with province.
Who gives a ****, nothing will change.

Provincial officials said while they are happy to explain details of the project to the Tsuu T'ina people, they are not re-negotiating the 2009 deal.
"That's the agreement that is on this table and we feel it was a fair offer for both the nation and the citizens of Alberta and so that is the offer that is on the table," Alberta Transportation spokeswoman Tammy Forbes said.

Good to see some hard ball from the Province.

Indeed. Lets hope their spines remain stiff. Clarifications or small modifications are cool, but if the Tsuu T'ina come forward with massive changes, the province should just get up and walk away.

I really can't see why the Nation won't accept the deal as it is. They're fortunate the government is still keeping it on the table. That's a pretty damn good offer and they'll be foolish to let that go.

So, I grabbed the following images with my iPhone this afternoon. It shows some of the construction on the SE leg just south of Copperfield.
So, can anybody tell me what they are digging so deep for? I was on top of the 10' vinyl fence, and that trench has got to be 15-20 feet deep. The bottom of the grass on those "hills" is normal ground level, and the new stretch of road to be built is also on the far side of those hills.

^If it's the area I'm thinking of, the "hills" are actually berms for sound attenuation. They are a part of the Transportation Utility Corridor, with the future Stoney Trail being on the east side of the berms. Hence, the berms protect Copperfield from the sound of Stoney Trail. As for the digging, my guess is it is to do with earthworks. If so, they are "borrowing" good dirt from the area for use elsewhere on the project, and will backfill it with dirt that isn't as good to build on or dirt that is left over at the end of the project.
If these are the berms that I'm thinking of, they are huge. I spent the better part of a very muddy day taking measurements along their ~1.4 km length earlier this spring.
EDIT: Nevermind, I'm thinking of the ones east of Copperfield, but the ones to the south are also sound attenuation berms.

Yeah, I was all happy that we finally had berms this week to keep the noise off 22X; and then today our berm was taken away.
What you said makes sense; it seems like they were taking the good solid clay out and replacing it with the topsoil the farmers had been using. I'm no engineer; but I think clay makes a better base than soil. I was just thinking "all it looks like it they are moving dirt around." I guess I was right.

From watching an episode of Mighty Machines with my kid, perhaps the clay is too porous for a road to be built on top of it properly? The episode in question had graders and excavators removing clay to replace it with some other more solid soil to build the road bed?
And who said watching kids' tv didn't teach me anything!

If you figure out where the %$#@ Max and Ruby's parents are, let me know.
I can hear them driving piles almost every morning when it's calm to the east of me. I can't wait until this and the 52nd st twining is done. To be able to go north without having to use Deerfoot will be awesome.
It feels good that all of the major road construction going on will benefit me to some extent but what would really improve transportation for me is the SE LRT.

Today they are in fact backfilling the trench with what looks like plain soil. The clay is being spread over the length of the twinning of 22X.
So anybody who still has a dead hobo in their freezer; get it over there today to have it burried 20 feet down.

I think it would be a good deal for the City, Province, and the Tsuu Tina to get that deal done.
It's the best option, for many reasons, also the cheapest, and it should provide a solid foundation for the reserve to provide for itself financially into eternity.

Good negotiation on part of the indians if this goes through...
Cash outlays are the same, make land transfer bulletproof...
Hey, who had the upper hand again?
The vitriol on here was simply ridiculous... Hope none of you negotiate for something that matters...

I don't blame the Tsuu T'ina for wanting some of the details clarified, as "we'll try our best to get that land" isn't exactly reassuring in a deal such as this. I also don't blame the province for walking away so they could have a good look at a (potentially) missed opportunity and realize that, aside from some changes to wording, the offer was as good as it would ever get.
Now everyone's back at the table for some minor tweaks, everyone knows that it is a win-win to get it done, and it will all be puppy dogs and rainbows before we know it.

Exactly.
So much for hard-line stances.
