The news announcement today said the SW portion of the ring road will be done by 2022 but they didn't give an update on the west portion. They need to complete the SW portion because the land goes back to the natives if they don't finish in 7 years.....but what about the west portion?

I take this to mean there's no guarantee the entire ring road will be completed within 7 years.....am I reading that correctly?

The bigger problem is strugglers at the light though. Huge gaps where you could actually fit another one or two vehicles in front of (what polak is saying). Just backs up traffic further down to superstore. The stupid thing is, snow/ice hits and there's no huge gaps.

After checking out the videos of what they plan to do at Glenmore/Sarcee/Highway 8, look for 6-7 years of increased hell at that junction in Calgary. However this project can't get done soon enough.

It's not going to be 6-7 years of ruthless delay. A lot of it is earth moving and stuff that won't crucify traffic flow. Glenmore/Sarcee is the most complex interchange ever built in Alberta from scratch so we won't have a good idea of the scope of delays until the website and detailed drawings go up.

Lots of the construction for that interchange is away from the existing roads, so traffic delays may end up minimal.

Is the interchange going to be shifted further south of where the existing stoplight is?
From seeing the existing plans and looking at what's currently there now, I would have thought that area would be hell for years.

Looks intense, but then they're also fixing that bizarre exchange and 37th street with the two roundabouts.

I'm glad they're putting a real overpass there, but the fact that they built one only to blow it up and start again a few years later seems kind of ridiculous.

according to this... the overpass was built with the intention of being re-used

I seem to recall hearing that the only reason the City built that overpass in the first place was there were some leftover bridge girders from some other project and they were essentially given to the City. The interchange was built for practically no cost so it was really a no brainer. It was offset to the east knowing full well it was temporary and as such would not be in the way of the 'real' interchange when it was eventually built. And technically speaking isn't the 37 Street overpass a City project and not part of the actual Ring Road (provincial project)?

The 37th Street interchange was built with surplus materials and built out of the way so that it wouldn't be in the way of the permanent interchange when it came with the ring road. The materials may very well be reused somewhere else after it comes down.

I really wish they'd commit some money towards the Deerfoot improvements that were just cancelled and supposed to already start.

Man, we should have elected the NDP years ago. The Conservatives are just throwing money at Calgary now.

Brian Mason on Calgary ring road: will be delivered on time and on budget, says P3 funding has to be used because of 7-year limit
Mason also says ring road contractor will be announced in the summer/construction to start before end of next year.
