Not true. One regular poster called him a pos in this thread. Ridiculous.

Life is not easy for everyone.
I don't mind the Flames forever idea, the concept is honouring the player and not shelving a number. He accomplished a lot here, and even if he departed inelegantly, it is fair to turn the focus to what is right.
* Also, I didn't hear anyone in the crowd booing his shootout winner in the pre season comeback attempt.

I guess if thats as far as the flames would go i would take it. Just seems weird to put him in "Flames Forever" when no player has worn #14 since Fleury left 14 years ago.

Ok so maybe not "no one" but it is a minimal number of people doing it. Not enough to make a big deal of it though.

really? we are still on this? Some people like him and some don't. Just like any political figure, some will forgive him for his immature behaviour, while others will not. I don't think any amount of "donations" or twitter donation funds will change that.

It will be "Flames Forever". So will Iginla, and Kiprusoff and anyone else. The team announced that they are no longer doing jersey retirements. But that doesn't mean much in this case. Nobody will ever wear 12 or 14 again regardless of what you call the ceremony.

I highly highly doubt that. I know they said that at the time, but that was more likely just to help smooth over the MacInnis honoring without retirement. The team will decide to retire numbers again, they'll just make some P.R. announcement.

There is no chance they do not retire Iggy's #. It is a time honoured tradition for great players. It would be a disgrace not to have one of the best RW's # retired when other teams are retiring #'s that were not near as good.
The "Flames Forever" was a stupid idea, but now that they have it they can't just drop it. I doubt it would look good if Macinnis was the only "flames forever" in the rafters.
They have opened a can of worms that did not need to be opened. What is going to be the new criteria to be a "flames forever" or a "retired #"? Where would someone like Kipper fall in?

So no movement to give it to Matt Stajan? He wore #14 with the Leafs.

IMO, it'd be pretty bush league of the Flames to not officially retire Iginla's number and go the route of "Forever a Flame". I think the Flames would be the laughing stock of the league if they went that route. Can you imagine if Sakic was "Forever an Av" instead of having his number retired? We'd all be making fun of the Avs for being bush league.

If Sakic, Roy, Foote, etc were all made "Forever a Av" it wouldn't matter.
The Leafs don't retire numbers and they don't get criticized for it.
As long as they honor the player in some way I am fine with ti.

Like I said, 12 and 14 are already retired. The ceremony is just details. However, the Flames do need to convert Lanny and Vernon's banners to match the style they did for MacInnis and Toth. May as well bring the Hitmen into the fold as well and convert Moran's banner.

You need to have Vernon with his old style mask.

Find me a decent resolution photo and I'll make it happen.
