Agreed--though knowing it's likely not true is the alibi that people use for themselves.

Here's the thing from my point of view: even if it was a funny joke the first time (and clearly not everyone thinks so) then it certainly wasn't funny the 101st time. Humor lessons, people. Even good jokes get old. Bad jokes get old faster.

Well, not too many guys out there are going to put a 16 year old on their list but I don't think that really proves anything other than they don't want to suffer the negative social consequences associated with that. If you look at the way society treats starlets like Hanna Montanah or Jamie-Lynn Spears (and Britney before her) or Lyndsey Lohan (when she was younger and not a coke head). None of them are over 18 and they are all marketed as sex objects.

And that's the problem with these situations as a whole. Obviously the government needs to choose and age of "adulthood" but some just arent there yet, while others could be considered adults at the age of 16 depending on their maturity level.

Just as a inquisition (no I'm not going around testing this) but what is the law with underage if you are around the same age. For arguments sake, I'm 19, what if I was to date a girl of 16 or 17? is that illegal? I thought there was some rule that its not if you're within 3 years of the younger person in age.

I see a lot of maturing going on right now, so ya, I think she'll be more mature at 18 than she is at 17. 18 is of course an arbitrary marker for adulthood and there's definitely no assurance someone is an adult at 18. I find adulthood is a byproduct of life experience, usually bad experiences. But ya, age and maturity are very relative. I know too many 40 year olds who aren't as mature as a lot of 16-18 year olds in many ways, but they do at least have some life experience to draw from when making decisions. At least in theory they do.
