I've found it to be kind of random. Sometimes I don't get an ad at all, other times they have a couple at the beginning, and still others they will be sprinkled throughout a show/movie.

My only complaint is that it can be kind of jarring as they just jump right into the ad without much of a transition. Otherwise it's entirely worth the money saved.

It seems random. It used to be at the beginning of a show but now they’re increasingly during the show. As I said, we don’t mind them. I can go to the bathroom or grab a drink.

Thanks for the responses. I’ll probably go with the commercial option. Not that the extra $10 would be that big of a deal but these streaming services just aren’t what they used to be so I have a hard time justifying giving them more of my money.

Anyone else notice studio exclusives are appearing on other streaming services more and more?

For example, I notice X-Files is now on Paramount. A slew of Disney/Fox movies appeared on Crave about a month ago (Prey, The Menu off the top of my head). Now Lost on Netflix. I noticed Twilight (and I assume its sequels) are on Disney. There were more, but I don't recall.

I wonder if this is a strategy to curb consumers from bouncing around streaming services? (I don't know how that strategy would work--I haven't put that much thought into this.) Or if I'm just reading too much into it.

Canadian distribution rights can be complicated but even accounting for that I think it’s just double dipping.

Studios still want to make money off their own library/streaming service but can also make money licensing their shows to other streaming services. They make money no matter which one you subscribe to.

Especially for shows that aren’t high profile. Disney ain’t licensing the rights to Star Wars any time soon. But xfiles? If someone is willing to pay, why not? It’s almost certainly not driving new D+ subscriptions on its own.

I'm curious...what kind of ads are they? Is it just like watching 'normal' tv? Is it a 'Netflix ad' (for, like, something on the service?)

Do they play just one? Or are they normal 3 minute ad breaks? Do they turn a 22 minute program back into a 30 minute one?


My wife and I are looking at this change to Netflix, and wondering if we still want it or not.

Different province, different curriculum and different things to read. Couldn’t remember what we read anyways so definitely wouldn’t remember an obscure quote from decades ago but definitely didn’t read The Outsiders. To be honest I probably didn’t read anything but Coles Notes.
