I'm cheering for this kid as much as any prospect the Flames have ever had...I hope this kid turns out to be a meaner Matt Duchene
It will be sweet justice to have Poirier develop into a Top 5 pick in this draft...right up there Monahan, of course.

Here's hoping the proceeds from these trades are as disappointing as the second rounders we got for Kent Nilsson back in the day.

The Pens might have got a real gem in Oil Kings backup Tristan Jarry. I know some on this board have been pretty high on him the past year or so. He played behing Flames prospect Laurent Brossoit but played really well each time he was called to start.

Yeah, you haven't gone out of your way to cut down people who haven't liked certain Flames picks over the weekend at all.

No kidding. Some people who watched him and Fucale play a lot last season think Tristan has higher upside, and could have legitimately been considered the best goalie in the draft. Will be interesting to see how those two goalies pan out in the long run.

Poor you.
I've gone out of my way to cut down people who've gotten angry because they're ignorant, big difference. If someone doesn't like a player that they've seen and are knowledgeable about that, that's totally fine.

I wrote an article for the forecaster a few years back that looked at this exact situation. I analyzed draft picks that fall compared to Central Scouting views going into a draft, while I also looked at players that were taken ahead of their expected place.
The brunt of the article wasn't on players though, it was on organizations and their habits.
The Oilers were big culprits in that time frame for taking players that were sliding (Henrich, Riesen, Rita), while the Devils I think were the poster boys for going off teh board.
The teams with conviction far outweighed the falling star teams in their overall success ratio.
If you hire idiots then conviction is scary, you can't avoid that.
But if you believe the Flames have a new direction under Weisbrod then you're glad they have conviction.
Bottomline though ... it's always fair to compare the next three players taken after a draft pick. Further than that is unfair.
Hopefully it goes their way.

Underwhelming group-hug capabilities apparent within the Poirier clan.

All that means is that Poirier is a late bloomer compared to other players in his draft class.
This guy is just finding things to yammer on about.
Amateurish writing on a website that looks like it's stuck in 1999. Is Geocities hosting that site?

Is this shocking? These are the same dolts that when we signed Chris Breen as a free agent said something to the effect of how even though they had never seen him and never read a scouting report that he would never amount to anything because he wasn't drafted.

yeah, because you've never posted in anger have you?
people that look at the film and loves the player get kudos and high fives, people that look at the film and aren't super impressed or think the asset management could have been better spent get jeered.
weird how that works isn't it?

Considering that they more or less said he never had a chance to be an NHLer, they are already wrong. It's just a matter of how wrong.

this is the salient quote from FN:
"As for Breen, the Flames have been good at identifying free agents coming out of junior under Sutter's reign (Giordano, Wideman, Richie Regehr, Ryan Wilson), but it would surprise me he had NHL upside. Any guy who stands 6'7" and doesn't get drafted in junior must have some pretty significant holes in his game. That said, I've never seen him nor read any scouting reports, so it's possible there's more to him than just merely being huge."
seem pretty innocuous to me...
I far as I know, he hasn't played a game in the NHL? Am I mistaken? I can't find any stats at least...

You're dead wrong here...relative o the situation, the signing has already paid off as he's been great with the Heat. All reports have him being NHL ready...for a non drafted player, it's already been a success
