Stromboli INN in kensington used to be wicked b ut the last time I had it I had to take it back it was so sh*tty.
|
I agree. Stromboli's used to be the best in the city. Until the owner decided to go back to italy for good, and took his mother with him. Used to be a good family friend of hours. Did you know most of his ingredients came from italy when he went there each summer?
I have the recipe for the wonderul dough/crust that his mother used to make if anyone wants it.
|
Gimme Gimme the recipe, that crust was amazingly fluffy and crispy. Whenever I try to make crust it tastes crappy. [/b][/quote]
Me 2 Me 2. Wicked stuff, that pizza.
Greco's on 17th is my other fave.

Tom's House of Pizza by far is the best IMHO. Mmmmmmm. Problem is it is filling in the least.

Spiros (soon to become Sophies at a different location when Spiros closes due to the owner of the building being an a$$) is second to none!

Why am I so hungry all of a sudden?
My favorite pizza comes from A Perfect Pizza in Canyon Meadows. For 20 bucks I get two medium pizzas with five toppings each and six cans of coke. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

Yeah, it is pretty good.
One location, on Richmond Road (across Sarcee from Westhills) has already opened up as a Sophie's. For the first month of its existence, it was a Spiro's.
I tried it the other day for the first time, as it is right near my house. Never did have Spiro's, but I think it is exactly the same - Spiro's was crossed off the menu, with Sophie's just filling in over top.

all-time was awesome pizza pre-1997 - the small was $19.99, 20", and loaded with toppings, good soft crust, lots of cheese, zesty sauce...
same old story - new owners, new pizza, $5.00 increase in price for each size. darn it.
when i lived downtown i'd hit wicked wedge when i could but the last couple of times it wasn't as good.
this is getting to sound like an old man's argument, how everything used to be better!
where are my teeth?
the aforementioned vern's is good.
honestly, the best pizza i've had in the last three years in calgary was at speakeasy.
no kidding, it was dripping with sauce, very soft, and there were huge tomato chunks in it. i love that!

"That pizza place" down in Castleridge is awesome. I haven't been to many pizza places but this by far is the best pizza i've ever eaten.

My dads cousin was the owner of Tino's restaurant on center Street. It closed down because the lease expired, and Lina (owner of Lina's Italian market, and the whole strip mall) had other intentions with the place. It is gonna become a restaurant again now, sort of like a restaurant/lounge.
|
I don't suppose they have any plans to move elsewhere and reopen?

Howie's is my favourite in town....awesome deals(takeout 8.99 3 topping large) and it's not crap - lots of toppings.
beats anything from a chain that's for sure...plus howie is a cool guy and had his delivery car covered in flames logos during the playoffs.

Sammy's Pizza (Cedar Brae) is a favorite for alot of people I know but it's just too thick, too much... the Perfect Pizza(Canyon Meadows) double chocolaty is a winner in my books, 2 pizzas, 2 litre of coke and 4 chocolate bars to round out the meal, the pizza itself is'nt the greatest but you can't beat the price, sacrifice alittle quality for quantity on this one... the Boston Pizza great White North is my favorite, the crust is not too thick and the two cheese(mozza and chedar) with ham(back bacon?) is fricking delicious, I sometimes get pineapple thrown on there to add a little more deliciousness.....

There is no doubt Varsity Pizza on the corner of varsity drive and shaganappi trail is the best pizza. It's a little Mom and Pop shop that you probably would have second thoughts about entering but it's so good and very clean. Everyone I have ever taken there is addicted and has to go back weekly. They also have good subs and the Lasagna is unbelievable. The prices are really good too. Personally if you order from there i think a 1 to 3 topping pizza is the best they put so much on that you get topping overload if you get more than that, and it ends up being hard to taste the homemade sauce.
I also really like Pizza Spot a good steakhouse type pizza in the northland mall parking lot.

The Wicked Wedge, some of my friends don't think it's that good...but I love it. BP's pizza is also one of my favourites, but I don't eat their crust.

BP's, but only for the sauce. I like a spicy sauce and haven't found one like BP's yet. If you know of a place, let me know. Pizza Hut is crap though.

But if you're ever in Sydney, Australia, try 'Gordies" in Cronulla... most likely the best in the world!
