If BC wants refineries, then they'd better get out the cheque book because no investing company is going to trust going through the process for building anything related to Oil and gas in this country.
That's right Horgan you smuck, you got 15 billion lying around?

No. But he did suggest Alberta build a new refinery...

He does realize even if we built a refinery we’d need a method to get it to Vancouver, you know maybe a pipeline?

Even better, he wants a pipeline in Alberta, we want 15 billion dollars.
We shouldn't be doing anything for the good of BC without getting lots of money.

Actually, no. Most refineries are usually located on tidewater.

He's publicly stated that his government is considering passing legislation to regulate (i.e. cap) the price of gasoline, so the answer to that is... yes?
Enjoy your gas lines, BC! Better stock up on Stabil and keep a few cans in the garage for emergencies!

I honestly hope he does that. It'll be such a big disaster that it should help people understand the damage this nonsense is doing to them personally. Although, the next BC election is not scheduled until October 2021...

I remember a nice lady of similar politic that would be happy to talk about a new Alberta refinery. Whatever happened to her?
Well have fun calling up Jason, I am sure he’d be happy to do you a solid!

Didn't she reach out to private companies for interest in building a refinery with Alberta Government help and didn't get much response?
Like I said, if BC wants a refinery either send us a huge check to do it, or stop opposing our access to the Canadian not BC coastline.
We shouldn't invest one cent into BC's interests.

Canada's oil imports from Saudi Arabia have been rising steadily for the past five years, according to Statistics Canada trade data reviewed by CBC News, and a festering diplomatic spat with the kingdom appears not to have had any significant impact on Canada's appetite for Riyadh's crude.
The total volume of Canadian imports from Saudi Arabia has increased by 66 per cent since 2014, with imports rising every year during that period.
Last year, Canadian companies spent $3.54 billion importing 6.4 million cubic metres of Saudi oil, up from 5.9 million cubic metres worth $2.5 billion in 2017, before the dispute started in August 2018.

That really isn’t that much oil relatively speaking.
Only about 110,000 barrels per day.

I keep reading comments on twitter suggesting that the federal government subsidizes oil and gas companies.
Can someone elaborate on this?

I’m starting to think we should just make a deal. Commit to a government paid refinery in Alberta in exchange to unfettered access and approval to build TMX, Northern Gateway. and a bonus pipeline of our choosing through BC. Give Horton the chance to make it seem like he won something. BC government has to commit to protecting free and clear access to construction sites.

Nope, my sense is that first of all we had made a deal with Clarke and got stabbed in the back by the new government, we'd even agreed if IIRC a financial benefit to BC.
There's a greater chance that we agree to a deal like this where we have to pull 15 billion out of our pocket and get screwed over by BC on the deal.
There has to be trust that BC would carry though on a deal.
Nobody is going to be willing to make a 15 billion dollar gamble of good faith, when all it takes is a municipality or group to not be on board with a horgan deal to completely wreck us with a massive debt.
we're talking about a 15 billion dollar anchor that Alberta doesn't need, and again, we can be held hostage over pipelines and have a worthless refinery in Alberta.
I would turn the deal around. approve the pipeline and one other and show us good faith in construction, and we'll help BC with an investment in a refinery in BC.
That way we get the pipeline through.
Nobody should be willing at all to do anything as a sign of good faith to Horgan, or do something that guarantee's his relection.
