My buddy put the emergency brakes on the train as soon as he saw the guy turn back towards the tracks but by then it was way too late to stop and they hit him. The conductor ran back to try and give the guy first aid but sadly there wasn't much he could do - I won't get into details but the guy had some pretty significant injuries.
Not only does it suck that a person lost their life here, but people have no idea the psychological and emotional toll it takes on the crew when they hit someone. People need to just stay off the damn tracks. That location is even fenced pretty well so there is absolutely no reason for someone to be in there.

Yes, he'd have to be quite drunk. The design of the station there makes pedestrians turn towards the train before crossing the tracks. Unless you are looking straight down, and ignoring the crossing lights, and ignoring the sound of the train, you can't get hit there.

Collision between C-Train and vehicle snarls traffic downtown
Calgary Transit shuttle buses brought in while service disrupted in the core
CBC News Posted: Aug 03, 2016 7:02 AM MT Last Updated: Aug 03, 2016 7:16 AM MT
A collision involving the C-Train and a vehicle on Seventh Avenue and Sixth Street S.W. is creating traffic disruptions downtown this morning.
Calgary Transit brought in shuttle buses to get passengers through the core while the collision, which happened just after 6 a.m., was cleared away.
Service resumed along Seventh Avenue just before 7 a.m., Calgary Transit tweeted.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to Foothills hospital with minor injuries

A man was hit by the train in the NE this morning. He was hit by the northbound train and I was on the southbound train that must have come along minutes later. We had just left Rundle and were heading towards 20 Ave when it felt like the driver was slamming on the brakes. We stopped for 5-10 minutes and there was an announcement about a pedestrian, but the rest of the message wasn't clear. All of a sudden transit cops and regular cops were walking along the opposite track and we were surrounded by police cars.
After about 5-10 minutes, our train was allowed to continue. We passed an empty-looking northbound train stopped in the middle of the track, but thankfully I didn't see the person who was hit (not sure if I missed him or he was already moved, because I didn't see any ambulances).
I wasn't 100% sure what the situation even was until my friend gave me an update from the news. The person who was hit was apparently taken to hospital in critical condition.

This one looks pretty bad from my office window... there will likely be some major delays.

I saw the tail end of this accident (just got there moments as it happened). All I can say is it was pretty gruesome.

Says injury still on CT Twitter, is this leaning to another fatality caused by not paying attention?

I can only see the swarm of lights and everyone standing around watching. Can't see the scene itself. But I'll be walking by it on my way home. From what I gathered on Twitter, it sounds like a pedestrian collision, not a vehicle. But I'm not 100% sure.

Hearing someone is/was pinned under the train. Terrible but when will people learn...train tracks are for trains.
