That's the thing, this "realization" will become a self fullfilled prophecy where everyone who believes in it will note shifts between thinking from 2005 to 2012 and believe it's because of 2012. But the fact is two huge events happened in this century, the development of the nuclear bomb which makes wars between world powers impossible (you can't defend against nuclear bombs, if USA and China ever got in a war, both worlds would be pratically destroyed by the next day) and the internet which has connected the entire planet.

"We've" been having an incredible shift in thinking long before 2012, and although it will continue through it, it wont be because of it.

I heard a couple of days ago Neil deGrasse Tyson and a few other Astro Physicists were being asked to debunk and talk about 2012/planet x and many other prevailing internet conspiracies.

The word is in the next 2-5 months we'll get a real smack down from the camp of real science spearheaded by Tyson, even though he really didn't think it would come to this.

Why would Tyson wait? surely he wouldn't wait because the believers say it's hiding behind the sun.

The people who believe in planet x will find a way to stretch there beliefs for decades based on ancient text, there is nothing Tyson can say to change this.

Well from what I gather he's going to do it at an appearance in the upcoming 2-5 months, I know he has a Leno appearance in May and I think late summer he's got some speaking engagements for a few of the yearly secular/humanist/atheist/science conferences we have every year.

He's a busy guy, but he's fully aware of the nonsense going around 2012.

Hopefully Stewart or Maher will touch on it and mock it as well in the next few months.

Most of these guys are fully aware of the nonsense but Tyson has the style/charisma to see dollar signs on a subject, like his black hole book, about 3% of it talks about black holes but the humor in it made it a best seller...smart guy, even know he screws up facts in his speeches a lot.
