With the 12th round Pick (247th) Hanna Sniper's EC and the G-String Band, selects in the “Female Singer” category, from Dublin, Ireland Sinéad O’Connor

Simply, one of the greatest singers of our time. Someone once said that her name goes synonymous with courage and integrity. Someone that only three years into their career, said to themselves that this doesn’t serve me… and walked away from fame. She has used her voice as a tool to stand up and fight those that defend child abuse. She has continued to grow as an artist with albums ranging from alternative, pop, big band, celtic, reggae, spiritual.

With my 12th round Pick, scwf's Creeping Death, proudly selects in the “Male Singer” category, from the City of Angels by way of Beirut, Lebanon – Mr. Serj Tankian

Quote:
System of a Down founder Serj Tankian was born on August 21, 1967, in Beirut, Lebanon. He and his family immigrated to Los Angeles in 1975. He studied marketing at California State University and started his own software company before beginning his music career with the formation of System of a Down in 1995. In 1998, System of a Down signed on to Rick Rubin's American imprint, and over the following seven years released five well-received albums, the second of which, Toxicity, thrust them into the forefront of the metal community, garnered a Grammy nomination, and sold millions of copies. Tankian utilized his success to influence the political world he often commented on lyrically by co-founding a nonprofit organization called Axis of Justice with Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello. He remained active with System of a Down throughout the mid-2000s and also released a book of poetry, titled Cool Gardens, before SOAD chose, in May 2006, to go on hiatus of an undetermined length. Tankian made use of this sabbatical to record his first solo album, Elect the Dead, which was released in fall 2007.

From Troutman:

With our next pick, troutman's K-Tel Sound Explosion selects in the Male Singer category, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, PRINCE:

I'm happy to get Prince this late in the draft - I'm a little surprised he wasn't taken in the first round.

His site seems to be down at the moment:

http://www.3121.com/

http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg...ifixqr5ldhe~T1

Few artists have created a body of work as rich and varied as Prince. During the '80s, he emerged as one of the most singular talents of the rock & roll era, capable of seamlessly tying together pop, funk, folk, and rock. Not only did he release a series of groundbreaking albums; he toured frequently, produced albums and wrote songs for many other artists, and recorded hundreds of songs that still lie unreleased in his vaults. With each album he released, Prince has shown remarkable stylistic growth and musical diversity, constantly experimenting with different sounds, textures, and genres. Occasionally, his music can be maddeningly inconsistent because of this eclecticism, but his experiments frequently succeed; no other contemporary artist can blend so many diverse styles into a cohesive whole.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_(musician)

Prince is a prolific artist, having released several hundred songs both under his own name and with other artists. He has won six Grammy Awards and an Academy Award, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. In 2004, he was named as the top male pop artist of the past 25 years by ARC Rock on the Net,[1] and Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Prince #28 on their list of the 1000 Greatest Artists of All Time

Prince is ruthless about copyright, so it is hard to find Prince videos on the internet. Here is a few links I did find:

Pop Life
http://new.music.yahoo.com/singleVideo/?vid=21785192

The Holy River
http://new.music.yahoo.com/singleVideo/?vid=2150216

Fury
http://new.music.yahoo.com/singleVideo/?vid=32752200

http://www.rockhall.com/inductee/prince

Prince arrived on the scene in the late Seventies, and it didn’t take long for him to upend the music world with his startling music and arresting demeanor. He rewrote the rulebook, forging a synthesis of black funk and white rock that served as a blueprint for cutting-edge music in the Eighties. Prince made dance music that rocked and rock music that had a bristling, funky backbone. From the beginning Prince and his music were androgynous, sly, sexy and provocative. His colorful image and revolutionary music made Prince a figure comparable in paradigm-shifting impact to Little Richard, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix and George Clinton. While 1999, Purple Rain and Sign ‘O’ the Times remain Prince’s best-known albums, the artist’s deep discography is full of funky treasure.

Live is an American alternative rock / post-grunge [3] band from York, Pennsylvania, comprising Ed Kowalczyk (lead vocals and guitar), Chad Taylor (lead guitar), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass) and Chad Gracey (drums and percussion).

Live is another band which has much of it's outstanding work veiled by the success of a few radio hits. If you have judged this band by "Lightning Crashes" alone (a song you either love or hate) then you might be missing something worthwhile. I'm not a huge fan of their most recent work as it seems to have lost a bit of the edge that drew me to them early, but I hold out hope that the edge will return at some point....much like it did for another of my favorite bands The Tragically Hip. Here are a few of my favorite Live tracks, probably songs you have never heard if you don't own their stuff. Enjoy!

Pain Lies on the Riverside (from Mental Jewelry)

White, Discussion (from Throwing Copper)

The Dam at Otter Creek (from Throwing Copper) Ignore the 'Barrens of South Jersey' footage...wow.

Pillar of Davidson (from Throwing Copper)

Ghost (from Secret Samadhi)

Voodoo Lady (from Distance to Here)

This one took quite a bit of debate for the category UK because I had a couple of bands in mind. But I really like these guys and I think they show a great deal of individual talent..

Hailing from Teigenmouth Devon in the United Kingdom.. I am proud to select MUSE.

Comprised of Matthew Bellamy (Guitar, Piano, Vocals), Christopher Woltenholme (Bass, backing vocals) and Dominic Howard (Drums, Percussion) the trio are a highly energetic and powerful sounding band combining hard rock, electronica, classical music and a touch of prog..

I personally think that Bellamy sounds a lot like Thom Yorke if Radiohead was heavier.

Knights of Cydonia (on Guitar Hero 3)

Butterflies and Hurricanes (Live performance shows Bellamy's mastery)

In the category GUITARIST I am pleased to select one of the greatest shredders playing these days.. with his own line of Ernie Ball guitars (that are a freaking dream to play mind you) from the band Dream Theatre

John Petrucci

A self taught guitarist, he learned his skills by trying to play to the skill of his idols who included Steve Morse, Steve Howe, Steve Vai, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Al Di Meola, Alex Lifeson and Allan Holdsworth.

With our next pick, troutman's K-Tel Sound Explosion selects in the Bass Guitar Player category, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, STANLEY CLARKE:

http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg...vfqxqe5ldfe~T1

A brilliant player on both acoustic and electric basses, Stanley Clarke has spent much of his career outside of jazz, although he has the ability to play jazz with the very best.

www.stanleyclarke.com

http://www.stanleyclarke.com/bio_pg.htm

His artistry has spanned classical, jazz, R&B and pop idioms. He has already succeeded in a multitude of diverse careers, any one of which would be satisfactory to anyone else. Yet he still pushes on, as invigorated and as passionate about music as that teenage prodigy from Philadelphia with a dream.

With our next pick, troutman's K-Tel Sound Explosion selects in the Female Singer category, from Akron Ohio, CHRISSIE HYNDE:

So, Stanley Clarke was stolen one pick before me! I'll just have to make due with the greatest female figure in rock.

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...ifuxqr5ldhe~T1

Over the years, the Pretenders became a vehicle for guitarist/vocalist Chrissie Hynde's songwriting, yet it was a full-fledged band when it was formed in the late '70s. With their initial records, the group crossed the bridge between punk/new wave and Top 40 pop more than any other band, recording a series of hard, spiky singles that were also melodic and immediately accessible. Hynde was an invigorating, sexy singer who bent the traditional male roles of rock & roll to her own liking

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...nfqxq85ld6e~T1

Since the late '70s, singer/guitarist/songwriter Chrissie Hynde has been the leader of one of rock's most widely beloved bands, the Pretenders. Fed up with the U.S. music scene, Hynde bought a one way ticket to London, England, where she became a rock critic. But more importantly, she found what she was looking for musically — Great Britain was in the middle of a musical revolution, "punk rock."

Hynde became friendly with such up and coming punk rockers as the Sex Pistols and the Clash (Hynde almost formed a group with members of the latter band), and its back-to-basics approach inspired her to form her own punk outfit. By the late '70s, Hynde had accomplished her goal, as the original Pretenders lineup was in place — Hynde on vocals/guitar, bassist Pete Farndon, guitarist James Honeyman-Scott, and drummer Martin Chambers. Due to Hynde's vast rock & roll knowledge, the Pretenders were much more than just a punk band — they were never afraid to let other styles seep into their own sound, making their 1980 self-titled debut one of rock's greatest all-time classics. Despite worldwide success and a hit sophomore album (1981's Pretenders II), tragedy was lurking around the corner — both Scott and Farndon died from drug overdoses less than a year apart from each other.

The Pretenders carried on despite the career-threatening misfortune, and scored another big hit with 1984's Learning to Crawl. Despite numerous lineup changes ever since, Hynde has kept the Pretenders going — issuing solid albums and continuing to be a must-see live act to this day.

http://www.rockhall.com/inductee/the-pretenders

As one of the first women to front a popular rock band - not only as the singer but also main songwriter and bandleader - she presented a hard, unsentimental image that was far removed from the likes of Linda Ronstadt or Stevie Nicks. She seemed tough, and her songs - including “Tattooed Love Boys,” “Up the Neck” and “The Phone Call” - could at times be unsparing, though she’d counterpoint those with sweeter tunes like “Kid” and “Don’t Get Me Wrong.”

With my 13th round Pick, scwf's Creeping Death, proudly selects in the “Lead Guitar” category, from Seattle, Wash. – Mr. Mike McCready of Pearl Jam

Quote:
Known for his Stevie Ray Vaughan/Jimi Hendrix-esque guitar leads, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready helped shift the majority of rock fans' attention away from technically demanding shredders to more feel-oriented and rootsy players. Born on April 5, 1966, in Pensacola, FL, McCready and his family relocated to Seattle, WA, shortly after his birth. Intrigued by Kiss' Ace Frehley and Aerosmith's Joe Perry at an early age, McCready received his first guitar at the age of 11, and was in his first band by the time he reached the eighth grade — Shadow. The group's sound reflected the burgeoning pop-metal of the day (Van Halen, Def Leppard), and after an attempt to land a record deal in Los Angeles didn't pan out, Shadow returned to Seattle with their tails between their legs, and promptly called it a day. The experience had soured McCready's passion for music, as he all but gave up on guitar. He cut his hair, attended college, and didn't touch his instrument for months. He eventually did get back into guitar, immersing himself in the blues-based sounds of Vaughan and joining a similarly styled local outfit, Love Chile. But the group proved to be short-lived — only playing a handful of live shows.
Through a mutual friend, McCready met Mother Love Bone guitarist Stone Gossard, who was impressed by McCready's talents after hearing him jamming away at a party. Shortly thereafter, Gossard found himself without a band when MLB's singer, Andrew Wood, died tragically on the eve of their debut album's release. A few months after, McCready received a call from Gossard inquiring if he'd like to jam together. The pair immediately hit it off, and with another former MLB member on board, bassist Jeff Ament, as well as San Diego native Eddie Vedder on vocals (and various drummers), Pearl Jam was born in late 1990. McCready also took part alongside his new bandmembers in the Chris Cornell-led tribute to Wood, Temple of the Dog, whose debut album was issued in the summer of 1991, just a few months before the release of Pearl Jam's debut, Ten. A year later, Pearl Jam exploded and became one of rock's top bands, as their debut camped out at the top of the charts and they toured as part of Lollapalooza II. Pearl Jam's success would continue throughout the '90s on the strength of such releases as 1993's Vs., 1994's Vitalogy, 1996's No Code, and 1998's Yield, plus their first release of the new millennium, 2000's Binaural.
McCready also lent his guitar-playing talents to several side projects, plus finding time to guest on other artists' recordings. In 1995 (just after he completed rehab for a drinking problem), McCready formed Mad Season with Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley, releasing their lone album the same year, Above, and 2000 saw another McCready-led side project, the Rockfords (which included former members of Shadow), and the release of their self-titled debut. McCready's bluesy playing can also be spotted on releases by Brad (Interiors), Mark Eitzel (West), Screaming Trees (Dust), Tuatara (Breaking the Ethers), Neil Young (Mirror Ball), as well as a must-hear cover of the uncommon Jimi Hendrix track "Hey Baby" (for the Hendrix tribute album Stone Free).
Can't wait to see what Dis has - Mike is in my top 5 favorites of all time
