This isn't about the fans being sheeples. This is about providing a great atmosphere. Seeing everybody in the entire arena decked out in red helps to enhance that atmosphere. I'm not one to do it because everybody else is doing it, but I think that wearing red to the game is a great idea and a part of the best way to support my team.

Come on guys, my ocean-whitewater argument wasn't convincing enough for ya?
And yeah, Kryzsky, I get the concept, I was just merely presenting an opposing view. I have a red jersey with a name/number on it and everything. My white is just my backup. So don't worry about ME not wearing red, I will be.
I'm just saying, if you CAN'T wear red (for whatever reason), and you have a WHITE FLAMES JERSEY, I say that's a-ok. If I have absolutely no means of getting something red, let's say, no red clothes, nobody to buy me a $5 shirt (thanks for the offer though, trout), no extra money AT ALL, not near any salvation army, allergic to red dye , whatever (I know it's an outlandish argument, but this is just to argue a point), but I am wearing a white of black Flames jersey, then screw all of you! I'm gonna support my team!
I'm NOT saying that a white jersey is what you should be wearing, but hell, if it's all you have, wear it with pride. I, for one, won't crucify you.

There is no opposing view, you're just being silly.
Here's how it goes. if you don't have a red jersey, buy a red shirt for $9.
Done.

^^ In the playoffs wearing a white jersey to the dome is NOT supporting your team. They want you to wear red.
Now if your watching down at shanks, then fine be stubborn and wear the White Jersey. I seriously keep checking to see if you're a newbe trying to heat things up, then I realize you're serious.

I guess my 'fishing' smilies weren't telling enough.
I think the 'sea of red' is cool, and people should make an effort to wear red to the games. That being said, wearing a white or black Calgary Flames jersey to a game shouldn't make one a pariah. If someone spent whatever outlandish amount of money on a team jersey, they have a right to wear it to their team's games.
The dome is going to be 80-90% red anyway, so why concern yourself about this?

Nope!
If you have a white Flames jersey, and no access to red whatsoever, wear the damn white jersey.
IMO, you bought the tickets and thus have every right to wear whatever you want. Except for green, pink, orange, or any opposing teams' merchandise.
Here's an idea, since some of you are SO opposed to anything that isn't red. Have some officials stand at all the entrances with cans of red spraypaint to cover up all that unsightly black, white, and yellow that is on your red Flames jerseys!
Hell, don't stop there. Make sure you wear red pants and shoes. And dye your hair red. And make sure you go out in the sun all day or visit a tanning booth the day before the game, and don't wear sunscreen! We want your skin to be a nice, bold RED too!

Look at the pics above, can you tell that the "white" people are wering a flames Jersey? No, all you can tell is that they are not wearing RED.
For up to 16 games a year, you put that White Jersey away.

80% Red is almost 4,000 people not wearing red. That's unacceptable.

Kryzsky, you're thinking too little. I didn't type that.
Just to p*ss you off, I'm going to wear a neon green and pink windbreaker to the game (I'll have to up to Edmonton to get one, but it'll be worth it). And I'm gonna get really good seats just so you can see me stick out like a sore thumb!

If you have your hands on playoff tickets it means one of three things... you have enough money for season tickets and bought the playoff ticket package... you have outbid a scalper on e-bay for seats... you were lucky enough to win a chance to buy seats. If any of these scenario's fits you then it is obvious that you could find a way to access 9$. Also, if you for some reason are a struggling student/vagrant/EI recipient that was given seats by someone than sign up for a mastercard. They give away free red shirts for the playoffs, they had them at the last game too.
There is no excuse for wearing the white jersey, the horse jersey or a t-shirt that is not red.

What if I am from a communist country, and could never willingly wear red because it would bring back traumatic memories of the oppressive communist regime I lived under for years, but still want to go to the game?

Kryzky, I was talking about someone spending an outlandish amount of money on a team jersey and then not being able to wear it to a game.
Asinine.
Some people don't want to buy and wear a 9$ red t-shirt, they'd rather wear the team jersey they paid $100+ for. Seems reasonable to me.
Yikes, you need to relax on the red thing.

Wear blue tinted glasses and then put the red shirt on. It will take on a certain shade of purple that you should be able to stand for two and a half hours.

According to Wikipedia, red is not white...
Quote:
The "Sea" of Red (Not White or Black)
During the Flames' run to the Stanley Cup finals of 2004, most of the Flames fans attending the hockey games at the Saddledome wore a red jersey with the Flames' famous flaming C on it. Many of those who did not have a red jersey wore a red shirt instead. Thus, the "Sea" of Red became the nickname for the fans at the Saddledome during the Flames' playoff runs. The tradition of the Sea/"C" of red dates back to the 1985 Stanley Cup playoffs as the Flames encouraged fans to wear red in their series against the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets' responded by encouraging fans to wear white, creating the Winnipeg White Out.
|
Note the part above where it says "Many of those who did not have a red jersey wore a red shirt instead". Nowhere in this statement is a White Jersey mentioned.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calgary...2Sea.22_of_Red
Don't be an arse, wear red.
