Not to be too much of a downer, but I've never understood why the Flames don't hand out free t-shirts to everyone.
The Oilers sent a package to all of their STH's with T-Shirts (1/seat) and a nice message included which encouraged handing them out to people who didn't own "orange". My buddy that's a STH sent it to me.
Honestly, the Oilers organization does it right, and we keep failing hard.
The ownership takes us for granted knowing that we'll fork out the cash like sheep...
That's from a guy that's been a STH for 13 years and spends god-knows how much at the 'Dome every year.
In my opinion, that's what makes the Sea of Red special. We don't need a manufactured and artificial red-out. There's a good mix of different kinds of red since everyone just brings their own jerseys/shirts. Visually, ours also looks better for that same reason.

If you watch the ABC/ESPN video of the end of Game 6 where Marty scores the big OT winner (at the end of AC's clip) there is an awesome interview with Iggy and Erin Andrews (what a babe then and now). Iggy is so full of joy and Erin said the Dome was the loudest building she had ever been in.
PS I was there. Amazing times.
Thanks for bumping the greatest thread in the history of CP.
The initial question and answer series between Ace and Calf (mostly) is the best.
Poll is fantastic addition.
Would definitely read again.

100%. Handing out t-shirts to create that white/red/yellow, etc effect during the playoffs makes it SO much lamer and artificial. You're right, that's totally why the Sea of Red is far superior; everyone here just knows to do it. And it's for the most part $200+ jerseys, not some cheap t-shirts giveaway.
I didn't realize the Oilers were doing that for this playoff run, copy us some more you losers. George Canyon may as well hold the mic out to the Dome crowd and let us belt out the last half of O Canada, since they're already copying our playoff traditions...and Vancouver was doing that before Edmonton did too anyway

It would be pretty tough to recapture 04's magic (for numerous reasons) but the Dome still becomes a different place in the playoffs, and does so with increasing magnitude as the stakes rise. The 08-09 series against Chicago had a fairly intense atmosphere, and if the Flames did something outlandish like, say, defeating Anaheim or Chicago in round 1...I think you'd witness the excitement erupt quite quickly.
A round against Edmonton would also be off the charts, but in some ways for the wrong reasons. The Dome's beautiful red purity would unquestionably be soiled by a spattering of ugly orange and blue that one wouldn't be able to unsee with a thousand blindfolds.
That game 6 against Det was crazy. Even during the regular play, trying to say something to the person beside you required cupping their ear and yelling.

That's when you go for a 10 taco dinner, and then wipe using the T-shirt, and then for added flavor you give a skunk a bath with it. then you seal it in a bag and send it back to him so that when they open it they can taste the rainbow
