Which is nice. But its disappointing that Johnny hasn't said anything. Doesn't take much to offer a simple thank you.

Reminds me of Eastbound and Down when Kenny Powers does his comeback, gets back to the Braves, walks to the mound in front of a frenzied stadium, drops the ball and walks away…
…for no reason whatever.

It could be coming still as I don't think there needs to be a timeline attached. The past 24 hours have probably been a whirlwind for him.

That’s the point I was trying to make. I don’t think Gaudreau ever would have accepted it, I think he wanted out of the Canadian market as soon as he could get out. The Flames going outside of their comfort zone and offering the contract they did to a player who never was interested to be here long term is a bit of a shock no? I’d hope the management team would have a better feel on their players especially the main guy. At the end of the day I guess yeah all this is a moot point though. What a piss off though lol, of course it’s Calgary losing the 115 point unicorn player for nothing to Columbus of all teams at UFA. Classic.

Good riddance. I loved him while he was here, but clearly he has some other stuff going on that would've made eight more years at $10.5M a very bad idea.
Now we trade Tkachuk and rebuild. And boo Gaudreau every chance we get.
Just for amusement - and spite - I propose we cheer Tkachuk when he comes back to town and boo Gaudreau.

It is far easier to go relatively incognito in larger cities. The Canadian cities are not only smaller, but there is one big show in town (hockey), and hockey players are recognized everywhere they go, by virtually everyone they run into.
The other thing is that there are definitely players in other sports avoiding NY and Boston to go play in Tampa, or wherever - it definitely happens, whether you're hearing about it or not. There are people that relish the spotlight, and people that avoid it. And everything in between.

Did the Flames post a thank you tweet or anything for Johnny? I saw one for what felt like everyone else but could have missed that.

Weird take. At least Johnny gave Flames fans his prime years. Matthew is taking the shortest route to free agency.

The Flames have also got a lot of good seasons from Tkachuk but as a Canadian organization you have to know when to cut a player like this loose. The Jets do this very well and it's just a matter of the Flames making the difficult decisions of maximizing the value of their assets and trading them before they lose control of the situation.
We will probably face the same situations with Coronato. Best thing is for the Flames to develop him and keep him until he gets to his RFA bargaining and if he pulls a Tkachuk then you just make the difficult decision this time.

If all Gaudreau did was post a thank you on twitter he would get critized for that too saying it wasn't a big enough of a gesture.
I'm sure something is coming.

Also lots of people here making the assumption that they choose Columbus because it was a smaller market, and that he was out of the limelight. It's quite possible that it was just the best fit and offer closer to home once Philly wasn't an option.
Gaudreau didn't shy away from the limelight in the NCAA National Championship Game, he didn't shy away from the limelight when he was one of the best players at the World Cup of hockey for team North America, and he never really shied away from big moments in his time as a Flame.
They are BS posts because people are cherry picking things that help fit their narrative.

I think the love affair with Calgary, the Flames and the fans among his family members was absolutely genuine. Hopefully they don't take too much abuse on social media

All you're good at these days is pointing fingers, Jiri.
Doesn't really add anything.
