So maybe we are all just missing something about Columbus in relation to Johnny.
That seems incorrect, looks closer to $9M now.
So he turned down home over $750k/year. Turned down lots of money and a better team in Calgary.
Settled on the best of nothing in Columbus.

In the end he didn't get the money or family proximity. Epic fail.

I can't help but feel right now, that this was a bit of a slap in the face to the Flames by John's camp. And yeah, he's no longer Johnny to me, he's dead to me.
Ditto to him no longer being “Johnny”.

He’s Gaudreau for life now.

He could have been traded to Philly from Calgary, too.

Either way, if the Flyers weren't signing Gaudreau when it cost nothing but money, it's got to be a tougher sell for them to trade assets for him.

Is it even possible that a team would offer him consideration to be traded to a specific team at a later time?

That would be a strange way to entice a player to your organization. But maybe that's what a team like Columbus has to do to land a #1 UFA lol?

I don’t think signing in Columbus with intention of being traded in 3-4 years makes sense. It would be an irresponsible scenario for an agent to advise for the client, since you can’t guarantee trades. Who knows, in 3 years that contract could be a boat anchor, Philly will still stink, etc…

Columbus has less then 3.2 in cap space now and he’s a RFA.

Depends who you believe.

Lebrun had $9+

Todd Cordell had $10+

Either way it doesn’t sound like the Columbus offer blew the other offers out of the water

Sure you can - Eichel is a recent example. You can't buy out an injured player.

People honestly think he’s some crazy ass petty loser who was willing to suffer at an organization he hated for years just to leave as a UFA? Lol.

Same goes for the idea he hates someone in the org. As if he’d just sit around and hate life for years on end and then leave now, instead of asking for a trade if he hated it so much.

The most likely answer is the simplest. He gets to play in the east, he gets out of an intense hockey market and he still gets paid enough to be rich beyond his wildest dreams.

Weber was traded. I think the team would just have to sign off on it basically. Its not like when Edmonton tried to trick LA.

Sorry
Not enough time to read 34 pages
But
Just want to ask
Have we decided:

1. Is Calgary actually that horrible of a place to play to leave almost 20M on the table to go to Columbus?

2. Did the Gaudreau camp simply miscalculate their value?

3. If the Gaudreau camp actually did miscalculate, why didn’t Calgary offer 10 x 7 today? Or did they?
