Pretty sure CBJ made an initial offer as the bell rang but didn't expect to hear back. They were surprised when the phone did ring.

With how well New Jersey has been playing, imagining Gaudreau on that top line as well? I don't envy the Devils GM for trying to get all those young contracts figured out once they're off their cheap deals.

The entire Saga reeks of panic which tells me that his agent absolutely dropped this ball.
Honestly. An hour of honest conversation and a few beers and Johnny and his agent are on the same page.
His agent dun goofed hard.

This is very very incorrect. I have it on good authority that the deal was done, and all that was needed was Johnny to call Murray Edwards.
That call never came.
Johnny's wife wanted to be closer to her mom who lives in....ba-da-bammmm....Columbus.
The agent did everything he was supposed to.

"Educated" guesses?

Johnny is clearly dumb as a bag of rocks, and his agent isn't far off.. he'll get points in a market without a spotlight on every move of his life. He'll be happy along the way.
He doesn't care about winning..

It’s a long con, Dube and our next 5 first round picks for Gaudreau at 50% retained from Columbus. Planned all along.

They should have been more embarrassed with his performance the previous 2.5 half seasons with the team not with the team.
Pouring more fire on a team and city that rolled out the carpet, keep it classy Guy and Jane.

Nice. We’ve done a lot of wife-related criticizing in this thread but we’ve really dropped the ball on the parent-trashing.
If we all play our cards right we can be talking about Johnny’s wife’s cousins by Christmas, as we should be.

I mean it was a pretty dumb comment by Guy
Brad could come out and say his play was embarrassing but he won't. People forget that going into last season the plan was to make Gaudreau more of a secondary piece

Very strange if true.
Clearly the deal wasn't done...as it wasn't...done.
IMO the agent pooched this. He may have gotten a deal to within an inch of the finish line, but it was pointless since he didn't understand his client well enough and/or he didn't help his client understand himself well enough.

There have been so many contradictory stories of people "in the know" that I don't know what to believe.
I'm just going to choose to not give a #### any longer.

I don't understand, why did he needs to call Murray Edwards? Why not just tell his agent?

I thought her mom was on the east coast and only had some cousins in Columbus.
Also Guy who had the heart attack doesn't live in Columbus...

Hate to argue with the radio but I saw no evidence whatsoever of said plan. Secondary to ...?

how about training camp with where Tkachuk, Lindholm, Coleman was a line and was the plan for game one until Coleman was suspended
I would say Pat Steinberg is pretty connected and he has said on multiple occasions that management was wanting to make Gaudreau more of a complementary player after the Canadian Div season.
At the time about 90% of this site would have agreed it wasn't really a radical though that Gaudreau wasn't the guy that was going to lead them to victory. Other media members have talked about hearing similar.
Also, maybe the biggest piece of evidence if they thought Gaudreau was the guy to build their team around they would have given him that 8 or 9M deal, they obviously had reservations.

No disagreement that they weren't willing to pay his asking price a year ago, but IMO that does not equal a plan to make him a secondary piece. Wouldn't that involve getting new "primary players"? I don't think that was Blake Coleman.
