He made a lot of great moves beyond the Kipper trade. Up to and including the first year post lockout when he signed Hammer to a great UFA contract and made great trades for Langkow and Huselius.
The Leclerc deal signaled the turn towards disaster IMO.

I don’t know, I’d say from 03-08 he had a really solid run. Drafting was a disaster, as well as his head coaching decision werent great. But his FA signings and trades were pretty top notch up until that point. Those 08 and 09 teams seemed like they could have caused some real damage.
Choosing Jokinen over Cammy and Dion blowing up the locker room were the two things that sunk that team. I don’t know why the Phaneuf trade went in that direction, but that was essentially when he lost the rudder.

An example of why Sutter should not be allowed anywhere near the GM chair.

He did the same thing with Anton Stralman. Traded him for a 3rd round pick (Max Reinhart) that never played for the organization. The guy went on to play almost 1000 games and probably would have looked pretty good in a Flames jersey.

That’s not really fair. No one at the time thought Stralman was a guarantee to be an NHL regular let alone a top 2 defenseman.

Disagree. Stralman had really high potential. Was overhyped as a prospect as a Leaf of course, but the talent was clear.
When the Flames acquired him I thought it was a steal and then was totally puzzled when they dumped him for nothing.
Love Sutter as a coach, but as a talent evaluator I think he's somewhat narrow minded. You see it in the drafting, in the trades and in the players he moved out.

Agreed.
Sutter was a really bad GM. The Starlman move is still baffling he looked great in preseason and was tossed away for a 3rd rounder. Starlman put up 34 points that season. While we had greats like Adam Pardy on the team.

I think Lydman out was necessary to bring Hamrlik in. So it was basically a free 3rd.
Lydman had 1 yr remaining (no idea AAV) while Hamrlik signed 2x3.5. Maybe having Lydman on his next contract (4x.2.875) would've been better than Hammer, but something else would've had to give

No, I mean, when I say I love Gaudreau, it's the Flames Gaudreau. Now that he's not with the Flames, I couldn't care less what he does as a player. I mean, obviously I want to beat them, but as a city, the fans, the organization, the way the Flames treated him, I would hope he loved it there and it was a great place to play for nine years. One he left, I did t really care anymore about Gaudreau, obviously. I was more focussed on the Flames and what their team was going to do. They got better, they got worse (in Columbus), I'm not really sure... But I'm focused on our team and we'll go from there

Exert some Free Will.
'Fans' are not some ordered homogenous group. Some will boo, some will cheer, some wont care one way or the other.
Choose your path.
Personally I think fans who show up can do what they want and I dont care so long as the Flames collect 2 points.

Blows my mind a professional athlete can't throw a ball. I remember years ago, Brent Sutter commenting on hockey players these days can't throw a ball, swing a bat, shoot a hoop because they played hockey 365 days a year. He went on about how important it was for their hockey skills to play other sports and develop different muscles that made them better hockey players. I've kept an eye on this since reading that article and am dumfounded every time I see it happening. Wild.

Phaneuf was also coming in. Lydman would turn into a solid Top 4 defenseman but Hamrlik at the time was an upgrade when the Flames already had Regehr-Leopold and Warrener-Ference as established pairs. I think even without the trade Lydman doesn't develop into the same defenseman getting lost in all that.
All got turned upside down the next season anyway with Leopold and Ference bein traded away, but that's a big reason how Giordano got his start.

That makes more sense to me. Don’t feed him with boos or cheers, flood hilm with the most awkward silence, imaginable.

Yeah, but that simply isn't happening. Zero chance.

Oh are they in for a treat.
Chucky is great at a lot of things, ironically skating is not among them.
