He said the Devils offered 10.5.
This is from from Pierre Lebrun last week.
"And, yes, the Devils made an offer, although I don’t think it was the kind of double-digit average-annual-value offer that would have closed the deal."
Not sure who the source is but it doesn't sound like they have solid information.

Yeah, this is a good comment / point. You're right, honestly.

|
I've been looking for highlights too but I don't think they actually had any broadcast for that game.
I'm still interested to see Johnny play. He's among the most fun players to watch in the NHL and I'm happy to be entertained by him even if he's not on the Flames

C'mon really?
I think the most interesting part of the story is that JG's agent gave the Flames his terms and the Flames met all of them. My sources tell me the JG camp then went radio silent for most of the day and that really pissed off everyone in management as the Flames wanted to issue a press release and move on to the next item on their agenda. Why else would Gross put out a tweet that the "Flames did everything they could?". That was clearly an agent getting ahead of the story to protect his reputation.
One insider told me the next morning (of free agency) JG's camp wanted to try to put things back together but Murray Edwards was having no part of it.
I think there was a lot of "immaturity" on the part of JG. Seems like he was really torn, and very likely wanted to stay, but things kind of got out of control.

I'm not mad about Gaudreau leaving - but I'm fine with people booing. Its a sport - we are fans - he left our team. Boo away - just adds to the atmosphere and makes it fun.

I boo McDavid and Klingberg.
I didn't go to the Rangers game but I woulda booed the hell outta Fox.
Last season the Caps played the Flames right at the beginning of the invasion and there was no booing at the Dome. It'll be interesting this season.

I wouldn't boo Gaudreau but I wouldn't want to see a video tribute either.
I'm general, I find video tributes extremely overdone. They should be reserved for absolute legends of the team (Iggy, Kipper) and/or long time players who are exemplary in the community (Gio, maybe Monahan).
How a player leaves should play into it as well.

Other posters criticizing you: bullying!!!!!!
Your delusional certainty he'd re-sign: being an optimistic fan!
Others discussing the complexities of the situation: toxic a-holes who only want to see the world burn!

There is actual reporting contrary to your sources claim of radio silence:
https://flamesnation.ca/2022/08/16/t...reau-timeline/
As for why Gross might make that tweet? Damage control because of how he bungled the situation is every bit as plausible as damage control because he bungled the situation at Johnny's specific direction.

That article does not seem to be directly contrary. For sake of argument, let's say the Flames accepted JG's terms at 2pm on the day prior to FA. To then go silent and not call back until that evening that they are going to test free agency is not good faith bargaining.
Anyway I'm just relaying what I hear from some insiders.

Only writing again because I've clearly been in the "boo this man" camp, and I haven't seen my main reason for this mentioned from either side: its the optics of how the whole thing made the organization - and by extension the city itself - look in terms of desirability around the league by fans, media, and probably players.
That whole Huberdeau/Weeger return squashed it pretty quick thank jebus, so I think people may be forgetting that for a couple weeks there, the Flames and even Calgary itself were looking like the late '10s Ottawa Senators in terms of the biggest dud place in the league to play. And I have no doubt that stuff spreads with prospective UFAs around the league. It wasn't just Oiler/Canuck fans laughing, it was fans and (Twitter) certified media around the entire league making jokes. Even eastern U.S. Twitter verified media. It was a bad look.
Its not because he left..had he just signed in Philly/NJ/NYR, etc etc, it's a whatever. It's after all that fell through, to go chasing a random "have not" viewed team that seemed as shocked as the rest of us he was even interested. It made it look like he'd rather be ANYWHERE than here. Add in the rejecting their own accepted "take it or leave it" offer followed by radio silence, and saying he didn't know until the end what he wanted to do, but then later telling Columbus media he knew for a while it was time for something new, and it just puts him in a very bad light.
Treliving himself said after the Huberdeau trade that the team and city itself had "taken some body shots...and it ###### me off", he clearly saw the bad PR the club/city took from the fallout too. And even Gaudreau's agent running damage control saying Calgary did everything possible, as he knew the whole thing went down poorly to the point it may hurt his own rep around the league. As a born & raised Calgarian, I just really don't appreciate that (even though I know Gaudreau didn't mean for it to go down like that), and if it wasn't for that insane Tkachuk return, I think the Flames would still be dealing with that fallout and negative PR. BOOOOOOOOOO
(sorry for the length, I suck at being succinct)
