Jeeeeeez people are tender. I thought that was a perfect response. Said he loved the team and the organization/ teammates. He told Columbus fans exactly what they wanted hear but still showed his former fans some love. So much butt hurt

I’m just sort of shocked he isn’t better coached media wise….could be wrong but wasn’t his degree in communications?

Yeah but it took him 10 years so he’s probably not that smart.

Saying I couldn't care less about the team twice in that statement says a lot. He should've just BSed and not made a point of separating team and city. Who is giving JG advice?? For shame..

What he should've said was "I love the city, and I still have a lot of friends on that team, I wish them well except when they play us, of course"

No, actually. I don't think he can because Gaudreau is the furthest thing from "eloquent." Communication is a skill, and it is one that he clearly struggles with. It is best to not read anything into what he says in public, because he sucks at it. In truth, I suspect that Gaudreau has predominantly positive feelings for both the team and the city in which he played for the past nine years.

That was a rough response from Johnny. Definitely needs some coaching from their press agent.
At the end of the day he should be saying nothing expect "loved it while I was there, and excited to be playing in Columbus now." Don't talk about if you care, don't care, miss, love, hate... the current iteration of the Flames, and question about the past "had a great time" and question about the present / future "I play for Columbus now, I'm here to win in Columbus, I like the team Columbus has..."
I suspect he did enjoy his time here, and has very mixed feelings about how things have gone since last season ended, and he is having a very hard time effectively expressing himself in a way that respects in new team/circumstances/family decisions.

I get why Johnny said it, showing support for his new team and demonstrating he has no affiliation to his old club. But still, that guy is just awful at this whole part of being a pro haha...to comical levels. I can't wait for his return.

I think Calgary fans and the city pretty much (or will) feel the same about Gaudreau. “Couldn’t care less” what he does or how he plays in the east. It was great to see him for 9 years. Focused on the Flames and what they will do. Gaudreau is irrelevant on a team most likely going nowhere.

Somebody should make a "Couldn't Care Less" sign and make sure he constantly sees it during warmup.

My take on Johnny.
Gifted player, absolutely no doubt. First 7 years he played pro, not much backchecking, and a huge floater.
Last 1.5 years with Calgary, under Sutter, he became a 2 way player.
I am happy both him and Tchachuck left the team.
Johnny will be remembered for the way he left, maybe should have told the team he was not going to stay, regardless of the offer. Just the right thing to do.
I think the team got better with him gone, and the new additions to the team.
My opinion.

Couldn't care less that Gaudreau isn't our 1LW with a photo of Huberdeau grinning.

Pretty epic heel turn from Gaudreau this off season. Will make the BJs games fun.
