GOAT!

I wonder if this is a bit of a middle finger for playing hardball with him on his last contract? I remember him saying he finally told his agent to just sign the contract so he can play. At the time I thought that was noble of him, forgoing the holdout path and just wanting to get on the ice.
Looking back though, I wonder if it was more like "whatever, just sign and we'll walk in six years and leave them with nothing."

I’m not sure I understand Columbus’ salary cap either. $3.5 to sign Laine? Is Boone Jenner LTIRetired? Still doesn’t seem like enough.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

They don't really care about Laine I just read on Twitter. Negotiations stopped.

And that revenge was worth 15M to him?

The Flames were rumoured to have offered him 8x8 last contract. I think he wanted to get to FA as soon as he could.

Again: He gave up $15 million or more just to give someone the finger?
I've heard of cutting off your nose to spite your face. This is more like cutting off your nose to spite someone else's face.

What’s with all the vitriol here. We all knew Johnny wasn’t coming back already. We all knew he was going to play out east in the EST. We all knew it wasn’t about the money. What’s the difference between him signing in NJ for $10M vs Columbus for $9.5M? Is it strictly because he chose Columbus over our city and that’s some kind of slight against our town?

If this has to do with splitting him up from Monahan that was the right move. Things were not working for them.

Just speculating, but it's a possibility that makes at least some particle of sense.

So Trudeau lost us Gaudreau?
