The fact Barkov is scoring at almost a ppg pace in the Finnish league as a 17 year old, is pretty amazing. Does anyone know how rare something like that is? I think he is the youngest player on the team by like 6 years. Watching highlights, he looks like he handles the physical game really well too.

This is the kind of draft I feel where any of the top 4 picks would be a solid player, and it would almost be better to be in the 3-4 spot, or to hold the #1 and see how desperate Colorado are to move up to take Seth Jones.
I too like Barkov, being able to play well against men and be one of the youngest in his draft class says a lot IMO. Physically developed, skilled, yet with potentially untapped upside. Him and MacKinnon are both younger than the others by almost a year!
So long as the pick is in the top 4, I think the flames are set to add a very good young player to the team, and with the other picks in the 16-30 range, those two could potentially be bundled to get into the 8-12 range, or the Pittsburgh pick could be traded down to add more picks in round 2 - so many possibilities!

Not me... I want MacKinnon. I think my list would go:
1: MacKinnon
2: Jones
3: Drouin
4: Barkov
We'll be getting one of those four (and they're all great picks). I think it's almost more fun to speculate on the St. Louis and Pittsburgh picks since those picks have a wider number of possible contenders.

I have a horrible feeling that Florida wants MacKinnon. The wait is killing me!

I'd love for us to end up with 1st overall. The Avs will be DESPERATE to get Jones and the Flames would be wise to trade down 1 spot, add a solid piece and pick MacKinnon and Barkov/Drouin

They probably do, but what makes you think they have a better chance at placing lower than us?
Besides, if they get MacKinnon... Barkov has the potential to be as good, if not better. He's just as good a pick.

For the first time in a long time, I at least feel that I can trust the Flames scouts and management to not make a drastic mistake at the draft. Not everyone will agree with their picks, but at least it will be well thought out. They've had a long time to plan for the draft, so I'm comfortable letting them do their job without too much worry. Whoever we end up with will be fine with me.

Why? I mean I have no idea what the Avs are looking for in the draft and I don't think the fact that Popeye played for Denver will factor in much if that's why you think they'll be desperate for him. I might be more inclined to think that a team like the Aves might be more inclined to take MacKinnon and then try to flip Statsny for blueline help.

Since it seems like it's going to be a very hard decision to make, the flames should make it easy for us and get both Drouin and MacKinnon.

If you are talking about his numbers nobody has come even close to producing that kind of ppg at 17- actually at 17 there just hasn´t been anyone who´s been even able to play in a big role like he has. Even at 18 he would be in unique company (Mikael Granlund the only one who comes to mind). Heck last year at 16 he was 0.5 ppg player already. At his age he is in a different tier compared to anyone else.

Would you trade our first pick a top 5 selection for all three of Columbus' first round picks? Columbus, NY Rangers, LA Kings. Depending upon where they finish could be a top 10, a 15-20 pick, and a 20-30 pick. Have to be the one pick for all three picks that Columbus has. Are the MacKinnon or Barkov franchise players or are they just very good players and having an extra 2 picks in the first round worth that gamble?

No I would not, even though its tempting.
We are going to get a franchise player with our pick. Jones, Nate, John, Sasha are going to be stars and one if these guys will be ours.

I am happy with either of the so called top 3. My hope is the Flames luck out and get 1st overall. Trade down to either the 2nd or 3rd overall spot and get a really ncie asset as a team liek Flordia really wants "player x" and willing to overpay to ensure they get him.
At this point of the game the Flames prospect pool is betetr off with any of the 3 guys (Mackinnon, Drouin or Jones).

Absolutely not. Top five pick (likely top 3) is probably an impact difference making player that has team control attached for 7 years. That is sooooo valuable.

Drouin I like cause he can hang on to the puck and create plays, also has a wicked backhand. Iginla, Cammerllari, Glencross, Bourque, Jokinen, Hagman, Comeau all were guys who are shoot first players. In order to be a puck possession team, we need more guys who can hang onto the puck.

I'd like to see us identify the group of players that we think can be big difference makers in the NHL, and move up in the draft to select whichever one drops the furthest. For instance, if one of Nichushkin, Lindholm, Monahan or Ristolainen happen to drop to the 11-12 range, we could target them there.
We gained a 2nd round pick by dropping 7 places, so if we were to move up 4-5 spots, we might be able to get it done with a 3rd and a 5th. This is much better value then giving up both firsts and maybe more to get into the top 7 or 8.
MacKinnon

In a strange sort of backwards way I'm more excited to see who we pick with the St Louis and Pittsburgh picks.
I think its a given that we get a great prospect with our pick, but those other two picks are the gravy.
