I wouldn't have a problem with him at 28.

Nope not at all. Much rather them use that pick on Petan over a goaltender. I'm all for accumulating elite skill in the early rounds regardless of metrics and drafting size later in the draft.

Looks like it'll be Monahan at 6, Fucale at 22, and Petan at 28.
The Flames like giving away their secrets.

I am actually ok with that.
Rather swap Fucale with Morrissey but this is not that bad.

Petan with tremendous skating and playmaking. Thought you should know he's a real possibility.
|
Maybe I'm wrong but I thought Petan's skating was judged by scouts as average and nothing special?

Petan, Wotherspoon, and of course Baertschi give us 3 ex-Winterhawks.

Having Gaudreau, Sven and Petan as 3 of the organization's top 5 forward prospects would certainly be going against traditional logic, relating to size. Hard to believe that all 3 would be top 6 forwards on a Cup contender.

Don't want a goalie in the first round. I wish we could learn lessons.

We are smarter than anyone else. The Kings, Bruins and Hawks running over teams was just a mirage.

No guarantee that the Flames will draft him or that he will be available when the Flames would pick him and I expect they are just doing their due dilligence here covering all their bases as they like us have no idea what players may be available at 22 and 28. We have been hashing out the draft in threads since the season ended and today I am still prepared to expect the unexpected with the Flames. They could trade up, pick a defensemen at 6 or even (shudder) a goaltender. Anything is possible.

Did I miss something?
I've read through pretty much this entire thread, and outside of Millions's recent tweet about Petan, I don't recall seeing any reports that indicate these will be the players the Flames will draft.

I remember someone from the Flames, (Weisbrod?) singing the praises of Fucale, so these could be the players the Flames target or they could just be playing games.

Petan won't be there at 28... a possibility at 22.

the Flames will interview 100+ players; Petan is one of them. That's all we really know

Not sure about Weisbrod but I recall hearing that Hartley fawning over Fucale and talking to him about possibilties or something like that.

Hope not... Obviously the scouts know a lot more about Petan than I do but if we do end up drafting Petan maybe we can flip Gadreau for some muscle

I'd rather trade Petan...
Or how about instead of drafting Petan, we draft some muscle.

6, 22, and 28 aren't the only draft picks the Flames have in this draft although I wouldn't object to the Flames picking say Mantha at 22 if he's there.

They aren't the only picks but they are the best picks to try to land players with both size and skill.
Originally I liked the idea of Mantha too but then a few posters replied that while he is a big body, he plays soft and has attitude issues.
Now I would much rather try to land Morin at #22 and Rychel (or someone similar at) #28.
