So which picks do we have in this draft?
6, 22 (STL), 27-30 (PIT), 67, 97, 135 (CBJ), 157, 187, and 198 (OTT) is how I have interpreted it. But is pick 187 in the air with the unknown conditions in the Jaffray MacMillan trade?

You think it would be hard to muster up a Gerbe, Ennis or Stafford? Vanek and Miller make big cake as does Myers and he doesn't have near the same value as he did as a rookie. You need to realize that teams like Colorado,Florida and Tampa can't/won't take on big contracts.

Then of course add the fact the 8th pick is crap this year compared to the 6th.

Calgary is in a better position if Feaster works it.

Carolina should be all over Myers.

His sh% was a bit high while his shot totals low which signals that what he did is probably unsustainable.
He didn't really catch fire till he was moved to wing and put on a line with Calle Jarnkrok so there is questions whether he can actually produce as a center, produce on his own and be more consistent(he went cold the last half of the season).

Monahan on the other hand was consistent all year had a more even split of ES goals and did it while having no one decent to play with on his team. His NHLE was 33 to Lindholms 40 but I feel like if he had a guy like Jarnkrok on his line + didn't have the added responsibilities of playing center his numbers would have been similar. Add in Monahans intangibles like size and leadership and I now beileve he is the guy.
It's a completely different measuring stick looking at an 18 year-old in a top men's league compared to junior. You're picking at perceived deficiencies like going cold or being streaky when it's expected that almost anyone his age would be colder and streakier while just getting a foothold at that level of play. Filip Forsberg who was drafted 11th overall last year has been playing in the league below Lindholm. Nichushkin had 6 points in 18 games in the KHL this past season. Lindholm started the season as the 13th forward and ended up 3rd on his team in scoring. I'm sure the scouts analyse the stats as a part of coming up with their rankings so they wouldn't rank him as highly if these things you're looking at are really such red flags.

Give or take one since I counted manually. But that also doesn't include any picks that have been traded multiple times.

Let me recount:

2012: 11 different picks were traded, 4 of those picks were traded twice, 2 more were traded 3 times and 1 other traded 4 times. So that makes 22 times a 2012 second round pick was traded.

2011: 17 different picks were traded, 4 of them were traded twice, 1 other traded 3 times. So that makes 22 times that a 2011 second round pick was traded.

2010: 17 different picks were traded, 6 of those were traded twice, 2 more were traded 3 times and 1 other traded 4 times. So that makes 30 times a 2010 second round pick was traded.

2009: 13 different picks were traded, 3 of those were traded twice and 3 others traded 3 times. So that makes 22 times a 2009 second round pick was traded.

2008: 17 different picks were traded, 6 of those were traded twice and 1 other was traded 3 times. So that makes 25 times a 2008 second round pick was traded.

So including compensation picks there were 154 seconds round selections on 121 occasions a second round pick was used in a trade from '08 to '12.

And so far in 2013, 10 picks have been dealt, none multiple times, but that number wll probably double at the draft.

I think it is hard to muster up those guys since Calgary hasn't been able to do it over the past 5-6 years (and maybe longer).

Florida for one needs to add big contracts to help them get to the cap floor. Getting a guy like Myers whose cap hit is more than actual salary helps them all that much more.

Buffalo is in a much better spot to move up if they want and the only way Feaster can try to beat their offer is gutting the young assets we already have (Brodie, Baertschi, next years pick).

2 weeks ago I favoured Lindholm over Monahan, but have now officially switched camps. Monahan is big, great defensively and has a very high hockey IQ. Lindholm sounds awesome too, and may even have a slightly high ceiling, but I think it's the fact that Monahan possesses great leadership qualities (or so I've read) that give him an edge for me. Potential future captain material. From everything I've read, I'm almost positive Calgary has him ranked higher than Lindholm based on these observations. Either guy would be awesome at #6 though.

I guess Lindholm vs Monahan comes down to if you want a Forsberg type over a Toews type?? I think Monahan's performance and leadership that was shown on a very bad 67's team are the qualities the Flames are in need of.

Lindholm compares himself more to Giroux who is quite a bit different player than Forsberg.

I think it's been 17 years since the Flames drafted a Slovakian player (Petrovicky in the 9th round), unless I am mistaken. And he was from the WHL.

Cannot believe he has Ristolainen at 25. If that happens I really really hope the Flames take him with the St/Louis pick.

Zykov at 37?? Mueller at 40! holy!

Fucale at 7? Ristolainen at 25? Lazar at 32? Those are pretty bold predictions.

Imagine getting Monahan / Lindholm, Ristolainen and Lazar.

They're not predictions... this isn't a mock draft Button's list is his talent rankings. He's usually pretty careful to say that his list isn't a prediction on who will go where but his evaluation on who will have the most success in the NHL.
