He projects as a 3rd line centre? Where are you getting that from. This guys scouting report is not like Manny Malhotra's, he's got offensive skill.

2nd line centre at worst from what I've read. He has top line centre upside. Don't see this checking line centre projection that you're seeing. If that was the case he wouldn't be lumped into the top 7-8 guys.

I agree... If I'm FLA, I don't pursue Luongo... They has a young stud in Markstrom...they'll have the same issue as VAN has soon enough... If they feel they need a #1 for a season or 2, there are other options on shorter term deals... Anyway, I think Markstrom is ready to take over for his upcoming season.

I'm not writing off Markstrom yet. Way too early

But didn't be have a bad season this year? I know all Panthers probably had bad seasons, but just wondering how he did this season

I'm not sure as I didn't watch a lot of hockey this year... I was very impressed with him last season though.

As I read more and more of the mock drafts, etc, it seems very realistic that the Flames could land a Sven-equivalent prospect with the STL pick... I've never been so excited for the draft!!

Watched Markstrom a bit this season cause I had him in my hockey pool and he was very inconsistent which is to be expected from a young goalie playing on the worst team in the league. He definitely stole few games for the Panthers.

Probably setting my self up for some disappointment on draft day but I hope the Flames take Viktor Crus-Rydberg with their third round selection if he is available. 6'1 190 lbs. Swedish center.

Not much on the internets about him but sounds like he has great speed and skating ability, along with some slick hands. Total throwing mud on the wall pick but if I am right, he is going to have a wicked WJC in 2013.

Monahan projects as a quality defensive center, capable of winning faceoffs consistently.

Although the report also states that he is a high-end offensive playmaker. But if that's the case, why project him to be a defensive center?

I'm probably reading it incorrectly. I have no expertise. Who really knows? At the other end, he's the second coming of Jonathan Toews.

The gist of what I've read on Monahan is that he's a complete player. The consensus observations are that he is a 2-way centre that plays all 3 zones. Somewhere along the way people started interpreting '2-way' as 'defensive'. Then some posters panicked and started comparing him to various dud centre prospects from years' past.

In October this guy was projected to go top 3 & deemed an elite offensive prospect. Since then Drouin tore the Q a new A & Barkov cemented himself as a top prospect. His stock has not dropped; other guys have had excellent seasons. Monahan's team sucked. As it stands, he seems to be thought of as a #1 centre, but not a superstar/franchise talent.

The only worrying trait that props up is that his skating isn't at the same level as his other attributes. That doesn't seem to affect the abilities of Tavares. Like Tavares, Monahan seems to dictate the play & pops up in the right place at the right time to make clutch plays.

He is exactly the kind of player the Flames have been lacking.

Schwing!

That looks so good to me.

How's Erik Johnson been playing since being traded to the Avs?

Has he been that bad that drafting a D is priority #1?

Anyone willing to give up #6 for Bailey and Nelson?
Would Isles do that?

Definately not- we are gonna get a great player at #6 and considering Bailey is not that great, you are basically trading your #6 for Nelson.

They have the blues pick at 25 if they are right about the #22(Shinkaruk) and #23 picks(Zykov), it would be a homerun.

Sure, it would be nice to see him win a championship, but that can happen next season.
I'm still choked about loosing those Boston prospects. They looked twice as good as compared to what we got- especially Khoklachev. Also, Bartkowski is already in the NHL and looks like a good up and coming bigger D.
